where's my background?

I know that any time you switch between window and full-screen mode on my comp, it breaks. I ALSO know that any time you switch between color levels, it breaks. And if you put it in windowmode and use the GTK-2.2 window manager to change the size of the window, X breaks. Entirely. Moo!

Okay, this is a bit of a pain, fixable but still a pain!

When the game starts the screen flashes white (ouch, it's 3:30 am). Then when i leave the station the entire bg is white & gray, very very nasty (it's 3:30 am and i've got xgamma at 1.3, ouch much!).

To restore the bg all i have to do is change the settings to something other than what it is, then change them back. Warping to other sectors is fine and as soon as the game gets going (after my initial switch) i see no problem. Docking and exiting stations are fine barring the first one.

Any ideas?

I have the same problem on 2 machines running redhat 9, one with Gf2 and the other with Gf4...

The textures, for some reason, get corrupted nonstop. Just today I switched between 32bit and 16bit mode and the sky turned green. :D Just reload them and beg the devs for a /reloadtexture command. For now, you just gotta set it to ,say, low textures then back to your regular textures.

I've seen the same problem pixelmasochist describes. After reporting the bug I've learned that switching sectors also fixes the background (if you can see the wormhole against all that white). I prefer using the Graphics menu to fix it, but I was near a hole and didn't want to be vulnerable at the time, so I jumped and ta-da!

I have similar problems. The background rendering just doesn't work right sometimes. I don't know when those times are, exactly, but it seems that the nvidia GLX drivers have some copy-to-texture bugs. In fact we're already working around one of those bugs which is just bizarre. If you render starting at 0,0 it screws up; if you render starting at 1,1 it works fine.

A much worse bug for me happens (using the latest nvidia drivers) when I switch videomodes (ctrl-alt-+) and it completely and permanently hoses all the vertex buffers. I think we need to yell at nvidia some more.
