OS X Vendetta Memory Leak?!

Nov 01, 2003 Arolte link
The latest version of Vendetta for OS X appears to have a memory leak of some sort. If anyone would like to confirm it using Process Viewer and windowed mode, it would be greatly appreciated. I have no clue how to use Process Viewer or the Terminal, so I'll leave it to an expert to decide.

But... here's my personal testimonial. After playing about 1.5-2 hrs nonstop, my framerates slowly dive down for each new sector I jump into. I start off with around 50-60 FPS average and eventually get to the point where it turns into single digits after a lengthy game. After restarting Vendetta my FPS rates were normal again. I tried running Vendetta for three sessions for about 1.5-2 hrs each. I got the same results of dramatic FPS loss.

Could this have something to do with caching textures and sectors loading? Turning my graphics down does nothing to solve the problem. My FPS rates are excellent when I first run Vendetta, so I doubt it has anything to do with my system being insufficient. My best guess is that the game simply has a memory leak that somehow sprouted with the latest release.

Also, both s3 and s6 stations have docks don't work anymore. The two top ones in s3 don't work. And someone else said the s6 ones don't work either, but I don't exactly know which ones for that. So it looks like the octrees broke again or something.

Okay, just figured out that there's nothing wrong with the old stations. The docks that aren't functioning just so happens to be the exit docks for the old stations, but without the nifty glowing effect to indicate this. Disregard that.

The slow decrease in framerate I think is the bug I've been talking with ATI about for the past couple weeks.

Are you running 10.3 or 10.2.8?
Which video card do you have?
Does changing resolutions or switching from fullscreen to window mode and then back solve the speed problem? These 2 things destroy the window and recreate it.

I have a GeForce FX Go5200 chip on my laptop and I'm having the same problems. I seriously doubt it's an ATI exclusive bug, since it appears to be happening on nVidia equipped Macs also. I'm running on OS X 10.3 Panther. If it helps... doshaders, rglow, and rgatten are all turned off but the problem persists. This is a new problem that was introduced in v3.3.5.

It's an OS X kernel bug, as far as we can tell. It surfaced first with the ATI cards. We're working on it.
