Sector lag and problems with hit detection

Feb 08, 2016 Savet link
This thread is for reporting problems with sector lag and hit detection.

Items to include when reporting a problem:

1. Date/Time of the problem, with timezone.
2. Sector the problem occurred in. If multiple sectors, list each sector as a separate event.
3. Description of the problem. Examples: Unable to damage NPC. Unable to damage player A. All players bouncing around sector.
4. Does the problem seem to be resolved when mobile players get disconnected?
5. Platform you are playing on: Windows, Linux, Android, etc.
6. How are you connecting to VO: Cable, DSL, Fios, Fixed Wireless, Mobile Wireless, etc.
7. How are you connecting to your home network: Ethernet cable, WiFi, USB HUB, etc.

Developers and players, please suggest and additional data points that are necessary or helpful in troubleshooting problems reported with sector lag and hit detection, such as pinging or tracing connections to specific hosts or IPs, but try to keep such data points within the limits that an average player who is not a developer or system admin can reasonably be expected to perform.

Inc, if you want details into this, check your logs:

Wednesday (2/3/2016) night, between 8:00PM to approx ~12:00AM EST. Edras I-2. Hit-checks on NPC targets would occasionally stop responding (no beep) during the battle. This includes shots not registering on blockade fighters, capships, as well as repair shots on ARF_01's Trident.

I'm on Linux x86-64 ethernet wired to a cable internet connection.

A couple of times recently I have had hits not registering against NPCs - notably against a deshielded queen, but didn't record the specific details, but will try to in future.
