Dolby 7.1

Is VO supposed to work with a Dolby 7.1 headset?

Specifically, a Logitech G930 under Windows 10. It picks up sound from everything else on the computer, but not VO. When I switch to my skuzzy old stereo headset, the VO sound is fine.

Is this a VO incompatibility? If so, is there an intention to implement Dolby 7.1? If not, is there an internal VO setting or something that I haven't discovered?

Thanks

Hm, Maybe try changing the Audio Driver in the Options menu. There have been historical issues with some audio devices not converting stereo into the device's native format for XAudio or Vista Sound or whatever, I forget.

Ok, already tried all three of the drivers presented there, same result.

Thanks for response Ray, I'll pay closer attention to audio format of headsets and speakers.

I had found that configuring the headset from 7.1 down to 5.1 worked with VO. For some reason, Windows has stopped offering the Configure button on this device (it's grayed out). Have no idea why. This latter is not a VO issue per se, but if anyone is listening and has an idea, I would be grateful.

This reminds me of a bug report I posted aaaages ago. Cannot find it right now because I post way too much stuff but basically it is like this.

VO does not support anything more than a stereo channel (2.1). If your 5.1, 7.1 device works with VO it is because the device/drivers do some up-mixing. But in reality VO only has stereo output (vo is old) so do not expect it to work on higher end sound devices without some device/driver doing the up-mixing.

Sorry, but VO doesn't support more than stereo, and some devices will not output any sound, especially those USB headsets.

The latter problem is probably due to a driver update, even if you wanted it or not. Find your headset in device manager and try to use the "roll back driver" option. The other thing to try is to re-install the manufacturer drivers.

HOORAY I STUMBLED ONTO THE SOLUTION !!!

This is with a Dolby sound device under Windows 10. In case anyone is listening in here, this is how I got VO to work with it.

There is a Sound control panel that lists all of your sound devices, i.e. headsets, speakers etc. Select the one that says "Headset Earphone ... G930 ..." (or whatever your device is). There is a pulldown menu at the bottom of this panel that allows setting a device as the default device. Set the G930 as default, and everything works great, including VO. The sound is awesome.

Sometimes the dumbest, simplest thing is the one that works. I looked at that button a dozen times and was sure it had nothing to do with the problem ...
