Splash from ship explosion causes faction loss

When your ship explodes and there is strike force nearby, and the the strike force dies from your splash, you lose faction standing. I'm pretty sure this was something that was fixed a year or so ago. But it seems to be happening now.

It also seems you loose faction for killing neutral players in monitored space.

We all float: You lose faction standing if you kill anything that has good standing with the faction space that is monitoring where you made the kill (corvus being exempt). I had a similarily unpleasant experience and posted this suggestion; pizzasgood provides some historical background that you might find illuminating:

You may be thinking of within the SFZ? I believe in that case no faction loss occurs... but someone can correct me if i'm wrong.

I'm not talking about killing things on purpose. I'm talking about someone else killing you. Example: you are in a XC. Someone else violates the NFZ. They use the strike force to kill you. Your splash from your ship's explosion ends up killing a strike force. Even though you never fired a shot, you lose standing or even become KOS. This is the exploit/bug I am talking about in this thread. There has been at least two independent confirmed reports of this happening in the past month.

I think the point here is it doesn't matter. Your death explosion shouldn't cause standing loss.

Thanks for the concise report. There have been times in the past where people were exploiting self-destruct to damage some victim when the explosions didn't cause faction loss. So it's a pretty complex problem to solve.

I've seen this before. Only problem with fixing is that you can have one player weaken a target to 1% then fly in player 2 with a rev c loaded with seeker missile launchers, at 1%, flare ram him and kill not with the flares, but with the death explosion, free of faction penalty. Centaurs would work great for this, they seem to go up real good.

perhaps making the death splash kills not hurt faction when npc's are killed would be a partial solution?
