thats an issue more with the relay than the game; the relay is sending a character that isn't in the game, and the game just uses a crystal (or empty box, or whatever) instead because it doesn't know what that is. in this case, looks like jt was one of those wierd apostrophes that point the wrong way. seems a lot of european pilots do that...

I did that on purpose, by typing a "Euro" into the game client. Glad someone caught that 😂

The original issue should be fixed.
Random crystal characters from the discord relay due to improperly converted UTF8 characters should be fixed.

It is also possible now to intentionally transmit a crystal from the relay with the tag ":crystal:".

It is also possible, as Luxen demonstrated, to purposely insert a crystal character into chat from within the game client, through multiple means.
