Linux: Cannot complete tutorial

Sat 11:56AM p0oc0rn5153 link
Hi Everyone!

Reinstalling Vendetta for the first time in a while after switching to linux. The game forces me to do the tutorial, but it will not allow me to use the keyboard at all for some reason. I can move the mouse and fire the weapon, however once going through the rings I can no longer complete the tutorial as I cant move the ship.

I know that once the tutorial is completed I have the option to remap keybinds or at least check the settings but I cannot even get to the main menu due to not having completed the tutorial

Linux Distribution: PopOS

Are you using Wayland? The game is only tested and validated on X11 (x.org). I believe our last tests Linux were on Ubuntu 24 LTS with x.org.

We've recently had reports of compatibility issues with Wayland, as some distributions have started to move to it as their main or exclusive Linux GUI provider (windowing system).

Wayland is supposed to be "X11 compatible", but apparently there are various compatibility issues that the Wayland developers philosophically choose to leave in place.

We have yet to do a deep dive and investigate the problem. There may be a workaround, or we may have to natively support Wayland, which while it may be a long-term goal, incurs a substantial additional cost of development for us.

I'll also note that some users find success running the Windows version of the game under Wine. I don't recommend this as a long-term strategy, as it may become less compatible over time (and running the native-Linux version is generally a better idea), but as an interim solution, it may be an option?

HI Inc,
Thanks for the quick reply.
Yes I am using the latest version of PopOS which is a wayland only distro. I didnt know of that wayland compatibility would cause problems, but it makes sense. I would actually put that in bold on the linux download page, would hate for anyone else to get spooked!

I did find success with running the windows version through wine. You mention in this other thread that distros are cutting support for x11...yeah :/

Anyway. Thanks for the help.

have the same problem. Fedora 41. Fullscreen I cannot do anything with the keyboard, and its a big enough problem that I cannot log in as well. Have to play via window mode.

We're going to try and have a patch for the issue this week. Maybe tomorrow if we're lucky.

A patch was released on Tuesday that forces window-mode when the game is fullscreen on Wayland desktops. The check is done by looking for the 'WAYLAND_DISPLAY' environment variable. If you're having other problems and need to turn off that fallback, undefine that environment variable before running the game.
