Yellow crosshair stuck at enemy

Mar 07, 2004 amq link
Hi,

i am posting this because Lin asked me to do it since she doesn't have much time to do it herself at the moment.
She was doing some training with someone and suddenly her yellow crosshair stuck at the enemy and didn't move at all no matter if either she or the enemy flew around.
She couldn't see where the enemy was heading anymore because the crosshair didn't change it's position when the enemy turned.
This happened on every enemy she targeted. The crosshair just didn't move at all and stayed right at the enemy.

The only thing i thought of was turning autoaim on and off but that didn't solve the problem as well as logoff/logon didn't.

Edit: This happened some time after the server restart. Maybe half an hour or an hour or something after it.

Hope somebody got an idea how to solve this ... bug?

bye, amq

That's the devs' experimental new "autopilot" kicking in. :P

What happens when you fire? Do the crosshairs still work in that respect? Or is it just a visual thing?

When I fire everything works perfectly well ... if i don't happen to rocketram me to death again ... errr... drifting away from topic.
Lin only tried to fire flares, no energy weapons. Anyway I couldnt believe all her energy shots would have hit even though the yellow thing was all the time on the enemy. Would be a helluva autoaiming, wouldn't it.
Well ... while firing flares nothing happened to the yellow crosshair. It stayed where it has been all the time. On her enemy.

Is it possible that autoaim got set to off somehow? ask her to type /set autoaim 1 in console and see if it fixes it.

It can be reproduced by aiming at something then turboing

Hi,

Celkan i mentioned in my first post i told her to do this and it didn't help.
Zeplin, were you only able to reproduce it or also to solve it? :-)
But if it can be reproduced the way you mentioned then it really is a bug, isn't it?
Or is it a new secret feature noone should know about because it's so uber? :D

What other weapons did Lin have connected to her ship and in what order and what grouping did she have set up?
If she had rockets first in the first group attached to primary fire then that may happen.
The leadoff crosshair is purely visual and won't affect the weapon.

Would there be a way to select which weapon group is indicated by the leadoff icon? This would have the added benifit of giving us something else to bind and use in an overly complex alias!

If i remember correctly it was dualflares on primary.
So it should be solved if she choses a different ship, other weapons or just other weapon grouping which will set it back to normal?

Thanks for you help and bye, amq

hi all,

@raybondo: i used a vult with double sunflares, primary weapons (first and second) empty, first secondary both flares. i am used to have rockets or mines on the right mouse button and not on the left ... ;)
and imo it affects to the weapon - while hunting (turbo) "my aim" i was not able to hit ... and i had a lot of hits before this "bug" appears ... ;)

@zeplin: it happened both times - while turboing and while just aiming without moving. i couldn't see where the aim was going when it moves, because the crosshair was "fixed" on the aim so i had to "search".

@amq: thank you very much for posting it here for me.
but i think it is not an uber feature ... ;)

Ussally in battle i wont turbo, So basicly with the aim dead on, with the autoaim, and turboing, it seems to keep the yellow aim on the enemy no matter were they go.
It stayed that way untill i changed my target.
Its not uber aim tho, Its like the normal target just disapears

hello again,

i played now a while. the fixed crosshair happens always, when i put all flares to one button. example: triple flares on first secondary. it doesn't happen with triple gauss on first primary. seems that it happens only while using rockets.

when i put 1 flare on first primary and the two others on first secondary everything is fine.

good night

Yes, the leadoff icon only uses your first primary fire weapon. It's kind of lame. Each weapon does, however, auto-aim within its own leadoff, even if its leadoff icon isn't displayed.

Heh yeah, we've had discussions recently about showing both primary and secondary weapon leadoff targets and other things. We haven't come up with a nice-looking elecant solution yet though.

can't you make more colors?

example- it turns yellow for primary, green for secondary, grey for both.

Use two lead crosshairs, it's what most flightsim games I've played do...

Why not 3?
