- 1500 Faction Hit

May 12, 2004 SirCamps link
OK, I finally got to combat level 8, and eagerly tried my hand at an assassination mission. I grabbed my bus, loaded it with rockets, and headed to s6, on hearing that killing an NT defbot would not hurt my ratings as long as I was in a mission. I get into 6, and the defbots ignore me. I chase one, and without warning, it opens fire on me. I fire back with sunflares, but die. Upon dying, I get the "you are a disgrace/end of mission blah blah blah" PM from the mission bot (in 6, ironically). But then one of my rockets kills the defbot. I was ~ +500 with NT, and now my level is -1000.

Devs, can you either tweak that or reset my score? This really sucks.

Until then, NT pilots, look out, I've got nothing to lose! Bwuahahahahah.....

Anyways, here's what i suggest:

1. Don't automatically abort combat missions when people die. Newbs will get frustrated if this happens, and it's a pain to fly back to 12 every time you die.

2. If you must abort missions on deaths, don't do it until the player is finished loading in whatever they set their home sector to. The mission aborted while I still had rockets in the air!

Based on the way you were speaking to the devs ingame today, I wouldnt be asking ANYTHING from them. What goes around comes around.
You were the ONE and single embarrasement Guild had today while running the game @ E3. You should really, really be ashamed of yourself.

Camps, I went from being Liked by Serco to -960 because a Defbot wingbugged on me. This is a test. Thems the breaks. Take it like a man and quit yer whinin.

I'm not much of a person who flames ppl or you know goes around complaining about ppl 24/7. But I just heard what happened today, and I'm personally shocked. Here the devs make this great game, get some publisher backup, and go to E3 to show off the game for more support. Then you have the guts to yelp at Waylon while he's at E3 is beyond what I can even think of. Seriously, what were you thinking?! The devs want to show ppl a GOOD impression of the game, not some game that has a bunch of whining complaining kids going off at the same time as the demoing.

I'm just plainly dissapointed. I love this game too much, I want this game to make it to the top, I want it to expand and be playable for years and years to come. Sigh...

Shame on you, alienb, shame on you StarFreeze.

SirCamps didn't shock me in any way. He made one comment and you have blown in out of proportion so much that me, who knew nothing of the issue at hand, thought E3 demonstration was a total fiasco.

My god, don't get on the high horse for no reason, surely there are better things to bitch about.

May I ask... what happened?

Just E-Mail it to me:

Yah, it hurts camps, but if they give you a faction reset, then they'd have to do it for everyone...

Woah....... people. Wow. We have some serious gnawing hatred here. I'm not even sure what you people are talking about. I was kidding around with Waylon about nuking bots in 17, and he came in and nuked me instead (out of good humor, I'm assuming), so I shouted at him, and he came back again in a Defender with many many more gatlings than the normal ones have. It was fun, and he eventually left.

I'm not really sure what you people are talking about...

-------------------

Anyways, flames aside, this is a potential problem. I think auto-aborting missions need to be delayed a little bit, so no errant rockets hit anything and wreck your standing with a nation. If any of you know, I have been very adamant about not harming NT pilots, but it's all been for naught. :\

Whether you log off or are cut off, after your missles leave the racks, it's just too late. If the auto-aborting happens and is delayed somehow, what are you going to do...run out and jump in front of your shots?

The time to worry about your missles is BEFORE you pull the trigger.

In your case, Camps, you took the hit but didn't get the reward. This was the timing of your demise...not a flaw in the system. Stay alive until your shots hit.

Well.. it shouldn't work in that way.. You fight a defbot.. everything seems fine, last rocket and.. BOOM, another defbot come to help and blow you up in a matter of seconds, mission instantly ends, rockets hits defabot, you gain -1500 rating, the screen "buy last ship" appears...

There should be at least 20s delay...
May 14, 2004 RelayeR link
Yes, it should work that way. Don't die before your missles hit.
May 15, 2004 SirCamps link
Heh. "Don't die." That's not really valid advice in this case. We're assuming that every time someone dies, it was due to factors beyond their control. If we're gonna have rockets disappear when you leave a sector (which is imo rather dumb, as it makes no sense at all), we should have a slight delay for missions that are based on living or not.

I still think it's kind of unreasonable to ask for special treatment, but whatever. The loss was due to a game mechanic that is not finished, not a bug.
May 16, 2004 RelayeR link
A "game mechanic that was not finished" ???

I can see the converse thread now...

DEVS - PLEASE make it so I do not get killed by someone's missle if they log or warp or I kill them first...IT'S NOT FAIR!!

This is the way it is supposed to be.
May 17, 2004 UncleDave link
Sorry, but if you kill a guy after he pulls the trigger, the bullet aint gonna vanish.
May 17, 2004 RelayeR link
But, when they warp their guideds do...as they should...they lack the signals from his ship concerning the target. But, did you also know that homers are fire and forget? We can target multiple enemies with them and they will continue to track.

This is about the reward for his kill. He should not get one if he dies first.

Granted, his kill should count in his record but not in the mission. The mission "ceases to be" the instant he dies. This is just the nature of missions, ATM.
