Trading is fun?

Jun 29, 2004 DIGITAL SHARK link
Last week I got 4 different pieces of cargo (prizes from 300c to 500c)in my Vult and I took a ride over to a few sectors to check out prizes. Boy I didn’t know how surprised I am gonna be:) I visited 38 stations in over 20 different sectors (over 3hrs of play!). Guess what? Only in 4(!) stations I was able to get prizes above the cost of purchase! This economy model is kinda hard to figure out I would say. Before at least you could count on some kinda profit (further you go better the prize, even adjusted for the supply-demand scenario), but now I am really confused...

I wonder if information which corporation is manufacturing the specific item would help a bit? Could we count on making at least some modest profits when reselling itmes between different manufacturers? Since different corporations own different stations in different sectors I understand that “the further you go” scenario will not economically work in this release.

I believe there was a game “Hardwar” that had something like a trader’s info screen which you could access in stations and see who needs what and at what price. These are just some suggestions, without knowing what are the devs plans. As a tester I did test the prizes and, a...... I hope devs have something to improve it a bit, otherwise.... enjoy those long searches every1 for a chance to make bucks:)

Before posting, please read around....It's been said in another post that during the next update the economy will be fixed to provide more profitable trade routes.

Also...this post does not belong in the general board.

Ya the economy took a back seat to all the new features just added, many of which impacted the economy in new ways. It'll get worked out.

You must be buying the wrong stuff DS. I thought the economy had been brought into line with the cheaper items.
It dosent make much sense to buy something for 15c and then sell it for 5000c in the next station.
I have been making a data base of 'items' (35 separate items so far) and their availability. Most are available in all stations but there are about 8 - 10 which are only available in about 10% of stations which you can make about 200% profit on elsewhere.

I will make this info available as and when i have finished mapping all stations. Probably just when they change it all again!

*Edit* make that 41 separate items

I agree ... if you look for a while you'll find stations with good prices

My most profitable route was one where I bought sth. for around 1000 and sold for 5000 :D ... if I just could remember where that was :/

I would expect that looking for good trades will be part of the eventual games' motivation for exploration. I've been to about half of the stations, making lists. Yes, the economy is not yet finished. (see FM above)
For now, there are good trades. There is an in-system trade that nets a 4000 credit profit per item.
Now if only I could remember where that was...

aye. I followed silent's advice (made a note of what sectors had what), and netted profit by simply selling items where they weren't sold.

there are some trade routes that only require one jump!

I've found a peice of cargo that brings a funky profit from a single jump.

Gonna go ingame now and become a millionere off that route.

Don't publicly remember where that is, trading depresses prices.

Actually, we should try this, we should flood a good market to see if anything breaks. Convoy anyone?

Mariner: stock piling cargo and selling in bulk are good ways to make a profit. if the prices are bad (e.g. if someone just sold 300 widgets right before you get there), you can wait for the prices to recuperate... but when there are more players, people will be selling/buying more often, and prices will probably get low and stay low.

--> which promotes exploring and getting more trade routes ! =D
