The main graphic on the main page of the Vendetta website, http://images.vendetta-online.com/extras/banner_download.jpg, is blocked quite often by proxy servers that are designed to block advertising content.

For example, on my own Squid proxy server one of the first ACLs I ever set up was against the word "banner". Blocking this word alone anywhere in any URI kills an unbelieveable amount of the banner advertising you see on the Net.

If it were just "my thing" then this wouldn't be a big deal, but as we all swap and share our ACL lists for Squid I've begun to notice that I am by far not the only person who runs a urlregex ACL block for the word "banner".

At my place of employment the Squid server was set up before I was hired on, yet the orginal admin set up blocks for "banner". At my wife's place of employment it's blocked. Just for grins I called up one of my buddies who works for a very large corporation and asked him to check, and - you guessed it - "banner" is blocked for anyone in their network.

Anyway, I can't help but think that if anyone behind this kind of content-blocking proxy ever swings by the Vendetta site to see what it's about that they won't readily see what is, in my opinion, this game's strongest selling point - that it is fully cross-platform. If the main image is blocked they do not readily see the Win, Lin and Mac logos.

I recommend that the name of this graphic be changed to have the word "banner" removed from it.

I think if they just did it for the Linux one, they'd bring enough people who use windows or mac either as a primary or secondary os that would ask, "hey, does this support windows or mac osx?"

But yes, a very good idea.
