Hey Waylon here's the scoop

The single player mission doesn't give any mission info until you jump, at which point it says:
Proceed to (whatever sector you're currently in). You will be given further instructions upon arrival.
It does not spawn bots if the sector is empty
but if you do kill a serco/itani it does give the reward and continue the mission.
