Can you describe what you are doing to get it working for those few moments? Are you using the in-game settings, or logging off?

i open the menu option/controlls/joystick
and then push the button: scan-then the joystick was reactivated-for a time :(

I can't seem to find an identical problem after searching. I'm going to move this thread over to "Bugs" where it will be reviewed by a larger group of users.

I wonder though, are there any irregularities before the joystick quits, or does it just stop working? When it stops, does your mouse work instead? I'm thinking you might be accidentally changing control modes via they keyboard, but I'm not at a machine I can test with just now.

here is a thread with the same problem.

Basically it's always been a problem and I dunno why.
What does your dinput.log file say?

I think dinput is losing connection to the joystick and telling me it is no longer available. Pressing the Scan button refinds it.
Do you have problems with other games doing the same thing?

Ray, I don't have a 'dinput.log' file on my Mac version...and, my Cyborg sits idle. It has no response to anything no matter what I do.

It is recognised by Vendetta when I go to the joystick options/settings page but no buttons there make it work.

Some Mac games work with some joysticks and some dont Relayer.
My Gravis works with 50% but not Vendetta, but my Sidewinder works fine with the other 50% inc. Vendetta.

Dunno why. It all used to work fine with 'input sprockets' in OS9. Seems to be an OS X problem. =(

What are you OS X stickers using as a driver. I'm not happy with what I have.

I finally got mine working again by unplugging and plugging it numerous times...an obvious bus issue but I still have the slight drift to the left...indicative of too small a dead zone.

I've only used it limitedly so can't comment on it dropping control.

I am having the same problem with my Sidewinder Force Feedback pro. It just quits working every once in a while...often when I launch from a station.

In order to get it working again I have to hit the scan button and then it finds it again and it works for a little while. I am on WinXP.

My joystick keeps shutting off in game as well. The scan button turns it back on but only for a minute or so. The dinput file you were talking about has this written about 10 times:
"[10/03/04 00:28:16] gdinput.cpp(761) : Error (Unknown): Unknown error. Error code 0x80040209."

I'm just going to pop in here and echo RelayeR that my stick on mac is still drifting as well, although changing the deadzone does nothing to solve that.

I have a sidewinder 3D pro and it keeps dropping out after a few minutes also. Scan button always brings it back. Running on XP. Don't have problems with any other games. No drifing, it just dies.

From what I've read here it sounds like a Sidewinder generic problem ?

This is the unknown error code:

HRESULT: 0x80040209 (2147746313)
Name: DIERR_UNPLUGGED
VFW_E_NOT_CONNECTED
Description: The operation could not be completed because the device is not plugged in. & The operation cannot be performed because the pins are not connected.
Severity code: Failed
Facility Code: FACILITY_ITF (4)
Error Code: 0x0209 (521)

Basically, your computer thought the joystick was unplugged for a split second.

Got the same Joystick disconnections / deactivations.

It normally happens right after launch from station OR right after a sector/system-jump (so after loading).

A Scan in Option-Joystick brings it back.

While its gone - the sliders on options-joystick remain on default position (left). BUT IT STILL shows the joystick in upper line.

It never deactivates while fighting bots.

I got a Sidewinder FF pro v1.0 - and its connected to a normal analogue joy-port @ my SB-Live v1.0 digital.

I DONT use the Sidewinder-Software - just build in drivers from xp home.

So that joystick deactivation looks like a (re-)initialization problem after loading a map.

I m not 100% sure - but if i remember right... normally i press the BOOST-Button right after level-load - AND I HEAR THE BOOST-SOUND for a half second - then the joy deactivates? - not 100% verified right now - will test that in a couple of hours (if i m back from work).
