Bot weirdness - lag issues?

Sep 14, 2004 Futt link
Greetings, fellow pilots!

So there I was, in a spanking new Vulture armed with state of the art artillery from the great people at Corvus, about to dish out some punishment to the Drone II population of Arta Caelestis. The trip went well, and I had soon delivered justice to several of the pirate scum. Then one of the rascals, no doubt scared witless from having witnessed the ruthless slaughter of his cohorts, decided to make a run for it. 'Hah!' I though, as I slammed the turbo and bolted after him (greatly aided by the Fast Charge(tm) battery, also purchased from Corvus). But he just kept on running and running, until the asteroids and debris of the sector was but a spot in the rear-view cam.

Thus we come to the weirdness part. Eventually, my adversary came to a halt - no doubt realising the futility of his actions. Still warping along, turbo on the "max" setting, I bolted past him, ready to maneuver myself in position to mercilessly blow him out of the ether. But lo and behold - as if struck by the hand of God himself, my ship instantly disintegrated leaving me rather sheepishly in a cloud of debris - only one thought racing through my head: "WTF?!!".

I know this kinda sucks as far as bug reports go, but I really didn't take much note of the circumstances (too busy staring at the ship selection screen while blinking). Is this a common issue, may it be caused by lag? Or do we have a rogue bot on our hands, blatantly exploiting game mechanics to lose his pursuer? Do the sectors have some sort of "outer limit", a hard barrier that will blow you up if you try to cross it?

Anyway - sorry about the rambling, terrible RP and obscene punctuation.

I'll go away now.

hmm, I seem to recall the devs adding a barrier to keep the floating point reasonable when it determines your position, but i thought that was several days flight out from the center of each sector.

Maybe he lured you into a cunning trap....

Maybe his father...the invisible Sentry...was at that location??!!

Somewhat related:

I was in Arta Caelestis today and the guardians refused to fight back... they just kept flying in straight lines as I mercilessly slaughtered them. This happened in multiple sectors in Arta, including a storm sector.

those things can happen when you are lagged.

sounds painful...

I have had issues similar to Phaserlight's. While doing Serco combat missions in the Itan sectors, I've found that the single Guardians will not fight. They simply turn tail and putter away from me until they are finally blasted into space dust. In sectors with multiple Guardians, they are much more aggressive and will turn and fight.

On a different note...

Why is premium ferris ore worth so much? I thought that iron was one of the most common elements in the known universe.
Sep 15, 2004 Spellcast link
because its premium and most stations dont get premium ore very often.

So why is premium silicate ore (or whatever ore is dropped by Sentry bots) worth less than scrap?
Sep 16, 2004 Celkan link
cause it's just some futzing *sand*.
Sep 16, 2004 paedric link
But it's *PREMIUM* futzing sand.
Sep 16, 2004 Celkan link
it's still sand. not worth much till you get just the silicon out of it for computer chips and such.

So why is premium ferris ore worth 4 times more than scrap then? It still needs refining before it can be forged into a bright, shiny ship that will then become scrap. Economicly speaking, I fail to see how raw ore is worth 4 times more than the already processed scrap.

hmm. check out what the nation defenders drop. it's *very* nice...
