Char Info is not gender neutral

Dearest Ray,
I am not a "guy" so of course there is nothing special about "this guy yet". Would you mind changing the wording to "pilot"?

Well, if you're going to get all picky, shouldn't this be in the suggestions forum?

Hehe, jk.

I always thought "guy" was gender neutral. When you talk to a group of people (whether they're all males or all females), don't you refer to them as "guys"? Like, "hey guys, what's up?" Dictionary.com's second definition is "persons of either sex". I don't know, I've never really thought of "guy" meaning a male. Anyway, I guess pilot would be less controversial. But I still find it odd how people interpret "guy" as something masculine. Maybe it's regional.

I got a better idea though. If it's possible, why can't the mission computer and profile menus refer to you by your character name? Or if you held a ranking, such as lieutenant, maybe that could be used instead. I wouldn't imagine it to be too hard to do. All it takes is a %charname string or whatever. It'll help immerse the player into the roleplaying aspect of the game, rather than constantly being refered to as "pilot" all the time. Just a minor suggestion.

Guy is masculine, but in english masculine words can include the feminine.

Only when working with a group of mixed gender. In this instance the word is singular and infers masculine.

This is not an arguement that either one of you (or Ray for that matter) is going to win. Trust me on this.

perhaps we should indicate what gender our character is when we create it, and that determines what noun(s) it uses.

Yeah ... give us back our gender! I demand political correctness!

Aehm, sorry joking ... but for me - and i can only speak for me - guys sounds masculine, same i feel if someone says "dude" to me. Like sarahanne said, just pilot is nicer ... ;)

Or, in the case of us ladies, "Supreme Individual" works too. :-)
