strike force & ion storm

Sep 29, 2004 andreas link
Maybe this is a feature. I picked up a serco strike force and they chased me through serco space until I ran into an ion storm. The sector the storm was in also had lots of roids in the center and I had to fly across them to get to the exit point. Essentially the strike force was unable to follow me. I quickly gained 3000m distance from them and left the storm without them following me. Bug? Feature?

Feature... Bots are scared of roids ;-)

If you ever manage to get back into safe territory, such as an admired faction or your own nation, any enemy Strike Force ships which follow you in will cease firing and will only follow you for a while, if they don't retreat. I think this is done on purpose to prevent opposing Strike Forces from attacking each other and chasing each others tails forever. In other words they have some fear programmed into them so that they themselved won't get screwed over if they fire in a protected zone.

As for the asteroids, they're not scared of them per se, but they do take a while to find a way around them. They're very helpful in gaining distance if you use them correctly. Sometimes hiding behind asteroids is essential when you're low on battery power. I personally think it's a wonderful feature that shouldn't be changed.

Thats the missing 'I' in the AI ;-)

I would suggest that they should behave 'differently' if they are in a group, i.e. 1 or 2 follow you directly, the other should aim for a path 100-300m beside of you (and change course directly to you if they got closer than i.e. 350m). They NEED to distribute. Have you ever seen a group of cops staying close together while taking out a 'gangster'? ;)

I Agree, however, it happend today that Strike Force and ApuTec Observer followed me, i moved behind an asteroid (perhaps not close enough), ApuTec Observer followed me and, as it seems he has no weapon, rammed me :-)

I had this happen to me as well. I was hiding between two roids. The distance between them was maybe 50m. The observer came around one of the roids, saw me, tried to fly by me, and rammed me with some 300m/s. Nobody died, but I took heavy damage. Feature?
