Cargo Convoy bug

Oct 16, 2004 Cam link
This one's great, I mean It's awesome that I can kill the Serco Transport and get an increase in Serco standing when I deliver it's cargo to Itani space! :P

Yeah as much fun as gaining Serco standing is... I'm guessing that aint right. :D

Yup can confirm this one.
Got 'significant increase' in serco standnig after picking up Serco cargo and selling it to the Itani.

Weird.... hmmmm unless their either poisoning the cargo or the weapon it builds will destroy any Itani that use it.

Back ON topic....

Found out that the convoy's navigation is very very odd. The Axia transport flies in a direction until 3km away, then doubles back... sits around for a random amount of time (waiting for odia collectors?) then proceeds to jump out (ignoring the 3km limit!)

Then the Axia approaches a WH. Goes past it (outside the wh area) then jumps through the wormhole.

On one of these in-system jumps (in Initros O12) the convoy vanished. We headed it off in the Pyronis WH sector (D2) and the Rhamus WH sector (B14) but it never showed up. It never respawned either.

(~10pm CST as "Spectrum" (Serco))

Overall, the navigation works well (ignoring the vanishing part), it just seems a little braindead when it reaches a decision point (warp/jump now, go another direction, or wait?).

Plus they can enter wormholes from 3km away...

ok im sry but these cargo transports are extreamly annoying. i sat in a sector for 15 min. waiting for one of these things to warp. (was the guy inside takin a crap or what?) im hoppin in the next update they fix that.

they're new software hot off the barbie, let it simmer down for a week and it'll all work out behind the scenes somehow

I found out that bumping the transport repeatedly seems to make it move again once it stops and the transport driver "goes to take a crap".

It's not all new.. they've been building up to it for some time.

First the bots flew around aimlessly until you shot them. Then they started to patrol, meaning they picked a target point and flew toward it, avoiding roids. Then they let the bots jump between sectors. Now they've tied it all together to navigate from one system to another. And that part works right, pretty much. The problems seem to be random hiccups when deciding where to go within a sector. Maybe they sit still or drift aimlessly because they're confused about what to do next. That and some of the rule-checking done on players seems to be broken for bots.

And you're right, it just needs some time to "simmer" as you put it. Who knows how much smoother it's been than if they had held it all off until one big A.I. release... The exciting thing is that once this convoy stuff works, they'll be able to add so much more "background" and story-driven action with bots.
