I was doing the basic combat training and caught the scrap metal from a bot I killed. I then jettisoned the cargo and got hit at some point. When I was trying to manuever again, I could barely strafe (14-15 m/s) and my max speed was 6 m/s going backwards.

Needless to say, I got picked off by some really wussy bots.

So, was that an engine damage feature or was it a bug?

Sounds like a bug. I've been down to 3% and was still able to run at full spead.

Maybe you accidentally picked up your jettisoned cargo again, thereby increasing your mass?

Sounds more like your brake (space bar) got stuck down. Mass doesn't affect top speed.

..just how long it takes you to get up to it.
