I call it a bug when swarms do 7150 damage in one hit...

I call it bad dodging ...

i call it people with no skill using homers cause they cant hit them with anything else

I think the thread wasnt about skill or whatever. swarms should do 8*450 =3600 damage max.
However it seems that swarms (or geminis) make very variable damage if you move (or your target move) while firing... sometimes its a lot more, sometimes it's a lot less.

Technically it isn't supposed to go above that max, but it will go below depending upon the distance the weapon detonates at and how fast you're going with respect to the explosion.

I don't think this is a bug... sunflares do the same thing if you turbo into them and take them "in the face." More of a balance issue, really...

I think the damage description is based on how much damage the weapon will do to a target if it explodes at its proximity distance. However, the damage closer to the center of the explosion would be greater. If there is a slight lag, then the missiles may detonate slightly closer than the actual proximity radius, and do more damage.

I'm pretty sure that both swarm types are contact detonated. And Viper2560, the usage of homers is a valid tactic. I certainly CAN aim energy weapons, but homing missiles make it so that I'm not a single direction, single threat source. If I put a weapon into space that takes a divergent path from my energy weapons, it forces my opponent to have to evade damage from two directions and from two sources.

No, swarms have a impact radius of ~20m which is -not- contact.

This made the chaost-swarm impossible to nest/dodge when they first came out.

(nest/dodge is when you steer a vult in between some of the pairs in the swarm, by doing this in a quick and rapid way you could either dodge, or detonate, a swarm without taking damage ;)

Its still possible to dodge geminis if you are reasonably close to the person shooting them at you and the angle is off. Alternatively, you can turn towards them and turbo at them. If you make it to 170-180m/s, they will detonate behind you. You still take damage, but its not as bad.

I was going directly AWAY from the swarms when they did this, btw.
