cargo transport issues

Nov 06, 2004 reptyle link
Had an issue with an Itani transport. Found it in a sector Pelatus K15. It was sitting motionless. I eventually got it going by ramming into it. Which it then though it was under attack :). In any case, it seemed in the more difficult navigation sectors (lots of asteroids) it couldn't find its way. After about half an hour bumping this thing along, I finally got it to Div M14, and it disappeared after the jump. I could not locate the cargo.

When the convoy's arn't being attacked it does seem like the Itani convoys take longer to navigate than the Serco ones.

Also it seemed to usually jump when my dist meter read anywhere from 400 to 1000m.

Edit: just found 2 Itani transports at div O11, when they got to 3000m they just stopped.

This might explain why the serco are ahead; they're taking advantage of the crippled bots.

Just found another one in Jallik C2, stuck in the 'roid field. There was a roid directly infront of its path to the wormhole. Once I get I bumped it and it eventually started moving again. I was less than 30m from it when I got the noticed that it jumped. I activated the wormhole..... No transport on the other side :(

I've had a range of experiences with these new convoy AIs (not as much as, say, Claimjumper), but the convoys that I escorted, generally went like they were supposed to. Once or twice, I saw a Serco transport trying to boost somewhere, but generally sat in one place. A stern bump from behind got it moring fast enough in the direction it wanted to go that apparently it had no more problems. I attacked an Itani convoy, and it spent 10 minutes motionless 3000m from Daltas Hold. I killed nearly all of the convoy escorts before I got careless and was wiped off the map. But in any rate, convoys tend to GENERALLY work, but they do get lost or get confused and just can't figure out how to get anywhere. The convoy AIs have gotten significantly better than they were before, I saw a three transport group convoy simultaneously turn and decimate a UIT attacker, but they still have a lot of room for improvement.

Something that might be interesting would be to have a player volunteer to be a transport captain, and get the option of piloting one of the transports - leaving their ship back at the station - and the rest of the ships in the follow the convoy captain's instructions (where to go, who to attack, etc). That player gets trade points or credits, or something as a reward for their actions.

/me volunteers to be the transport captain and steals the ship.

Might save me being 'decimated' again :)

Not only itani. We lost four of them to space as their escorts decided to go for a break, and the transports thought that sitting still was a great thing to do.

Even more annoying are the itani convoys that warp as soon as they are hit with pure rocket weapons. I fired a round of screamers at them as they exited the warp... they warped again.

Sorry if I sounded a little biased.... I've heard more complaints about the pathfinding abilities of the Itani transports than the Serco ones...

The factor seems to be how the convoys react while under attack. When being fired on the convoys step right along for the most part. Its when they are not in danger that they seem to lollygag around.

And do not forget the strong Itani Propaganda.
Everything is EVER worse to Itani... lol

I killed a lot of Itani Convois, and trust me: Normally if you cannot catch them at the start, you will never catch them.

The bug with the "no-moving-convoy" seems to be the same for both nation for me.
