I give up.

The convoys at least. this is completely unattainable.

Last three ones I tried, I've let them reach Pelatus, and fired shots as soon as they enter the other side.

The transports respond by immediately jumping to the other end of the system. I boost out into space. They reach the WH and jump.

Before I load the next sector, they are safely up inside itani space.

Just what the fsck. am I supposed to do here ? Isn't it enough that the serco gets destroyed by UIT players inside Serco space without reprecaussions, but that the itani one hasan incredible insta-warp as soon as it becomes attacked?

Fsck it all. you don't deserve it, since not even once have I seen an Itani -defend- the transport. I've seen plenty of Niki, who rather dumps itani cargo in space and takes a PvP fight than defend or protect cargo, but no -defenders-.

But I won't play a rigged game anymore.

I'm out.

I'm really sorry to hear that.
The convoys are obviously very bugged. We're working on it as much as we can.

Like Spider, I'm somewhat tired of this convoy game. This time, I've been trying so much harder to raid every Itani convoy that I can get to, and protect every Serco convoy that I can get to, but we're always losing by more than when I began. I was extremely enthusiastic when we were just 57 points back, and we managed to get it down to 46, but the next morning we were down 60, and it's gotten progressively worse. We're now 248 back and I'm beginning to think that I want to go back to slightly boring process of leveling up instead of letting myself be cannonfodder for Eldrad again. I suppose that I would be gaining valuble PvP experience, but I'd end up getting frustrated losing yet another convoy, and when there are only 14 serco online compared to 33 Itani and 32 UIT, there just won't be enough support for me to take on Eldrad and whoever wants to help.
Nov 11, 2004 Spider link
Add to this that if I even try to defend myself against Eldrad, I get a warning that I'm picking on low level pilots and will be penalized with a lot of XP.

yeah right....

To the buggy convoys: As fast as the Itani convoys move, as slow are ours. When they leave Sedina L-2 it seems they have forgotten, where they wanted to go. Last night (for me) after waiting over 30 minutes i begged a friendly uit player (greetings to the vipers) to kill our transport, so that i could pick up the cargo and bring it to Pyronis.

Offtopic 1:
Spider, calm down please and stay in game. Hey dude, don't leave the few Sercos (and me) alone ... ;)

Offtopic 2:
That has to be put under suggestions, i know ... but i put it in here. CrippledPidgeon said it in his thread: Serco is NOT the cannonfodder for the other nations.
I am tired of hearing that all Serco are pirates, griefers and so on. I feel insulted when an uit player says that all Serco can kiss his a...
Now, don't tell me, that's roleplaying ... imho it isn't, when you sit warm in Dau and have a big mouth.

I miss a bit balancing ... a unique benefit being Serco, something that will let new players stay Serco and not switching the nation after they hear, that all Sercos are a.. and that UIT has some great Y and Itani some great Y, which for the most of them is nearly unreachable when they stay Serco.

My 2 pence

Spider:
Hmm... the Itani said in another thread, that THEIR convoi is lame and slow, and the serco one is perfectly good. So this might be discussable (allthough I tend to share your opinion)

The main Problem is, that the Itani are winning this week, because the UIT decided to help Itani only. And no, do not tell me that some UIT are working for Serco! Shooting our convoy and delivering it then to our destination is not helpfull. The tradeship could do that on their own. Just have a look at the detail-stats for UIT member at the Cargo Capture Side.
There are only 2 (!) UIT I know working for Serco.

And second: All this "wanna-be-pirates" that are yelling for PvP ingame, and complaining for no real action in this game (sic!) on serco side are not helpfull too. If they would carry their butt to Serco/Itani Convois, they would find lots of PvP. But they do not.

Lin:
Yes, this is getting worse.

I am playing Vendetta, because there used to be a nice community, and beside all the fightings and flag-captures we had, there was allways a minimal respect for the opponents.

That seems to be the past... And I am very sad about it.

Some Itani/UIT does not seem to realize, that Serco is not a NPC-faction. But since we are the weakest nation now (in players) and have a horrible "special" ship (you know... this terrible slow brick...) I think we are the perfect target for those players tu cuss. Such people like to kick the allready beaten.

But finally: There are still nice Itani/NT people out there, sometimes the few idiots spamming the mainchat will let you think they are all gone, but they are still there. Perhaps the Itani/NT Vets should do something about this topic...

Sugar: What? Tertior posted something incoherent. Everyone else agreed with Spider in one way or the other.

I'm finally going to have time to play next week and check out the convoy situation for myself. Obviously it needs work...

Sometimes my poor english make me missunderstand some posts..

I edited my post before, deleted some sentences.

Tertior: Sorry.

The prom is NOT a terrible slow brick!!.

It is an awesome ship, very powerful, exceptionally deadly. It is NOT however EASY to use. Any trained monkey can fly the itani valkarie and possibly win a fight. But to fly the prometheous takes lots of practice.

And the convoys are mostly bugged. I've not been concentrating on them much when i was ingame last. The itani ones do seem to jump much faster. and having the serco convoy end up in a sector adjacent to a grey system is really unfair. That means that a raider can hop in, hit the convoy and hop back out much easier than hitting a convoy in the itani systems, where we have to go 2 systems INTO itani space if we chase.
Nov 11, 2004 NoAddedSugar link
Spellcast: Might be... but I think it is not a "strike-vessel".
With this tradeship behavour we have now, you need a ship that is able to jump in quickly, fire one burst to an unguarded target, catch the whole cargo and be able to fly home quick.
A Job perfectly designed for valks.

A Serco Vulture is able to jump in, but can only carry 2 pieces of cargo.
A Prometheus has the cargohold, but is too slow to jump home quickly.

The Prom might be a nice challenge for a duel and a nice ship for wars (in the right hands) , but it is ... hm ... ok ... let's call it "difficult" to do Valk-designed missions.

At least make the bodyguards really defend the convoy or give the transporters more hull. That will hopefully avoid cheap kill-runs and make a Prom a bit more usefull
Nov 11, 2004 andreas link
Now thats simply not true. A prom with heavy engine and FC battery can EASILY escape a valk. Just turbo full speed and jump around in empty space. This has been broken forever and for some reason there seems to be no desire to ever fix it. I gave up defending convoys because its just absolutely impossible to ever catch anything (including centaurs). Once a target is up to 200m/s the chase is over.
Nov 11, 2004 genka link
Infiniboost is a bitch.
I don't think getting rid of FC would be too extreme either.
Nov 11, 2004 Eldrad link
Valks don't have the cargo space either. I'd suggest the Axia bus. You can take out the convoy and it's guards, then get all the cargo, and finally on your way home kill who ever grabbed your nations cargo and take all that cargo home as well (unless it was 10 cargo each in which case you need the Valent bus, but that's got 300 less hull).

I totally agree with the people who complained about the XP penalty for "picking on me." At level 4/4/0/0 equipment isn't different enough to merit a XP penalty for anyone fighting you. Yes there are plenty of newbs who have no clue how to fight and run around in bad ships at level 4, but they do the same at level 9. The XP reward should be more dynamic. I would suggest increasing it based on Player Kills (ideally different amounts based on how high the killed player ranked in this system) and reduce it over time. You could also reduce it over deaths, but then someone might just sit in a bus and repeatedly issue so that people attacking them will be screwed out of points.
Nov 11, 2004 reptyle link
I had a few chances over the past week to shadow several convoys, primarily itani. My previous complaints were not entirely accurate.

The convoys are still not obeying the 3000m limit before jumps. I found several instances where the transport jumps at less than 500m. I would assume what spider is talking about is some new behavior added to this as the devs are working to fix these issues.

The transports are also having exteme difficulty navigating through asteroids. The transport will say its being attacked, but it has just run head on into a large asteroid without even trying to avoid it. If the circumstances are right, then the transport will come to a dead stop as it has difficulty navigating around it.

As far as the XP penalty, I would make a suggestion. If there isn't a cargo escort mission there should be. It should be available at the start and end stations of the cargo runs. It would be groupable, providing money, combat and maybe even trade expercience when the shipment is sucessfully delivered (by either the player or the transport). When a player takes the mission, there will be no XP penalty assessed for who they attack or whoever attacks them (within the transport corridor).

If that sounds like a decent proposal, then I'll repost it in the suggestions forum.
Nov 11, 2004 thurisaz link
correct me if I'm wrong, but nothing has changed in convoy AI between now, and the previous two weeks when the Serco won the Convoy Wars by a significant margin...

and regarding strike vessels, I've never used a nation-specific ship to hit a convoy, only a stock Cent III. If I can manage to fill the hold before being chased off (a _rare_ occurrance), then I consider myself very lucky

...and I really can't say anything about one convoy being faster/smarter than another, because I get no reward for guarding Itani convoys. Lately, however, they have seemed to report jumping quite quickly
Nov 11, 2004 NoAddedSugar link
No, you are not wrong thurisaz.

But look at this:
Cargo deliverytoday:

Itani 241
Serco 296

The Serco delivered the most cargo, but will loose the war.

You wonder why? Check UIT...
And why are UIT helping Itani?
Because they want to earn Itani standing for the Valk.
So...
Nov 11, 2004 thurisaz link
noooo, I'm sure many UIT pilots are helping the Itani either for RP reasons, or due to the vile invective we suffer at the hands of Serco pilots...

not that ANY of this has anything to do with convoy AI at all......

and anyhow, for the record, without the UIT current standings would be:

Itani: 679
Serco: 555

(remember to factor in Convoy Transport deliveries)
Nov 12, 2004 CrippledPidgeon link
What of anything have the UIT suffered at the hands of Serco? Lest we forget, jsteiner is an ITANI griefer. To my knowledge, there are NO griefers in the Serco ranks.
Nov 12, 2004 NoAddedSugar link
Once the mass of Itani will have valks and start to grief UIT, they will learn who the real enemy is. I just think it will be too late to ask serco for help then because of the UIT behaviour now...
