I was playing my character "Dragon of Fire" and I was minding my own business doing trade missions in grey space when I ran into Sputnik in a WH sector. He came and tried to kill me and I fired some missiles at him. To prevent myself from getting killed I jumped through the WH, and while I was entering the Wh the missiles hit Sputnik and killed him and I got +300 combat for it. But the kill did not go toward my kill count. I should have 2 Itani kills right now, and I only have 1. To make sure I hade killed Sputnik to see if it wasn't a figure of my imagation I msg'd him and he did say that I had killed him.

Sputnik obviously counts as a bot kill :)
