Proximity warning

May 20, 2006 Ghost link
Is there any way to exclude turrets from triggering the proximity warning? Every time I go near a cap, I'm assaulted by a swarm of beeps.

TBH, i'd say a capship *should* make your prox detector go nuts ;)

Certainly draws your attention :P

I'd prefer the ability to have my prox detector not respond to friendlies - but of course, you'd have to fix the friend or foe ID system for that to work properly...

Or even a different sound for friendlies entering the proximity.

The proximity warning seems to go off constantly for friendly ships, so it would be nice to have a warning only for hostile ships.

Yes and yes. I'd quite like more differentiated proximity warnings.

This also ties into the "Make turrets not behave as 'main' targets" thing, or, rather, into the entire IFF system debate.

I can't remember if I suggested this once before or not...

Anywho, it'd be neat if the tone of the warning increased in pitch each time an additional ship entered your sphere of proximity, and likewise went down a notch when a ship leaves that sphere. Right now there's a way to tell when a ship gets close, but not when it leaves again. Sometimes if they're right on 300m away, and they'll beep several times in succession, making Mynt very confused. But most importantly, whenever a Cap ship flashes by, you'd get a very high, and very stressed sounding warning, as one rightly should. =)

Whenever you'd enter a sector containing a wormhole with 20+ Unaligned NPCs in it, you'd be half-deaf. No thanks. I like it the way it is now.

Different sounds would be cool.
