battlefeild lines between the serco and itani nation borders

Jul 07, 2006 sincity35 link
I have always wondered, well before i get into that one reason i never joined serco or itani becasue their isnt really a war going on.what i mean is i have never seen the itani or serco in a big battle at the borders i may see acouple of them in fighters dogfighting but thats it.

my idea was say that since the serco and itani are neighbors to eachother have the systems on their borders a complete battlefeild well not a complete one just near the wormholes. Each faction would just keep sending fighters and frigates at eachother and one massive fight would begin.it would allow other players to get plenty more experience and get the THRILL of being a in a real fight.

Im not saying that some convoy ambushes arent a battle its just not enough for my taste.im UIT but i hate the itani in every way.I hope you take this into consideration. Also dont CHEW me out because i posted this.

Also if there is a dev reading this im just wondering, its been on alot of other peoples minds aswell. Will the planets ever be 3D,it would be nice

the planets are 3D, they rotate and all (very slowly, so youŽll have to really pay attention to it to notice, itŽs a very subtle effect

but, youŽll have to define the detail level to the max to have it, otherwise, the planets will be just billboards

Well the Deneb BS is pretty much what you are talking about. It is just being tested so far, eventualy i'd guess that it would become bigger. Though lag could become an issue then

Reno i think your wrong or have mental issues because i have my settings in the graphics i have it all at maximum i have everything to give me the best quality.

Also this thread isnt basically about the planets in 3D,its about the battlefeilds.

Well, coordinate a battle then.

Didn't the Itani organize an invasion of Serco space a couple of weeks ago over the weekend, where a dozen pilots jumped in together and wreaked havok? (Or is that scheduled for tomorrow at 3:45pm eastern standard time, to hit Geira Rutilus en masse before advancing through Serco space? Er... I probably shouldn't have said that...)

Put out a notice and organize the event. The devs can't do EVERYTHING. Maybe if the event is put together and we ask nicely they'll spawn a capship or two for us to make the battle really intense.

Reno Targett knows what he's talking about, sincity... he's the designer of all the new ships.

Planets are unreachable 3D objects that slowly rotate. Find one with clear continents/ocean and take a closer look with the "I" key.

Also... spend more time at the Geira/Deneb wormhole, you will see some pretty big battles if you wait long enough. I saw three Heavy Assault Cruisers duking it out just the other day.

According to the back story, the war is a stalemate. Itani have placed massive defence at the wormhole leading from deneb to serco space. If you visit that location at *any* time, you will see at least one frigate on each side, usually three, and a HAC or two as well as several fighters, engaged in all out war, blasting each other to pieces. This location is also the playground for the border skirmish mission. Go have a look. It's pretty impressive. Then there's also the BP mission of course. Nowhere near as impressive but still. This also fits with the backstory of VO.

One thing that doesn't fit with the VO backstory are Itani invading Serco. It's completely unheard of, with one exception - the black painted ships of the Order of Akan.

I don't think an Itani invasion is that far out of whack. You win a war on offense. Defensive fighting is highly effective for making the other side pay in lives, but to truly WIN a war, and elimante all threats from the enemy, you need to play an away game.

The Itani want peace, and they might pray for it and do everything they can to work towards it, but they're also considerably smarter than the modern peace protester who thinks that a hug and a flower will make a terrorist defuse a bomb. The Itani have had 4400 years of history to look back on and realize that defensive combat only prolongs the inevitable, and one crack in those defenses, one technological advancement (like the English longbow, for example, or the Panzer tanks that simply went AROUND the Maginnott Line in 1939) may well render their defenses completely obsolete.

Yes but if you read the story line the Itani want peace, and then only way they could break the Serco would be planetary bombardments, I don't see them doing it

While the order of Atan keeps attacking inside Serco space - against the rest of the Itani's wishes, the rest of the Itani are indeed tree-huggin hippie pacifists. The will defend themselves, but attacking first is not in their nature. It's religion, society, etc, that prevents it.

Is it smart? Will constant defence win a war? Well, perhaps not, but none the less, this is the way the Itani act. It's all in the backstory.

Should the Itani change tactics? Well, it would be very surprising to see them suddenly ignore all their ideals and ideas over night. Personally, I feel that any Itani player that wants to attack Serco in an offensive manner should simply join/create a guild roleplaying as being part of the Order of Atan. That way they get what they want, without "violating" the backstory.

Personally, I don't think Itani players have any business in Serco space, unless their ships are painted black and their hails contain the words "Order of Atan". My 2c.

Hey you're no boss of me!

Your suggestion would work if you were talking about bots as it is if all of a sudden I feel a bit himocidal, visiting the serco becomes a very good idea :)
