Unaligned Convoy of DOOM!

I would just like to briefly point out that this fleet idea may be in the works sometime in the near future. I suggested that pirates be in fleets of various sizes, and in passing momerath mentioned that it may happen at some point.

On the terms of caps, we just have to draw the line on what ships are essentially military and which are more widespread. ATM, it seems as though HAC's are military vessels while teradons and tridents are more widespread. Although personally, I think teradons should also only be military vessels, but they appear in convoys often enough to put my theory to shame.

Similar to an example used above, pirates in actuality have no way of obtaining up to date military vessels for their own use. They use either common civilian/older military technology with the exception of what filters through the various black markets.

Corvus of course must be viewed differently because, as has been stated, they are not pirates, but a corporation. Despite the wiki, I think the devs have mentioned that corvus is a loosely run corporation. In all honesty I could be wrong on this though.

Alright, I may have gotten a bit carried away with HAC's attacking nation space. Actually, I was under the impression that there was still discussion of making the unbots into Corvus bots.

I believed that unbots attacking nation space would bring about motivation to combat the unnies, but now it seems a bit absurd. The new proposal:

Just have the remnants of the unbot fleets remain at the end of their run, the Ukari-Latos and Edras-Pelatus wormholes. A large force of unbots would be a "Now Entering Gray Space" sign to any newbs. It also gives players a small motivation to clear out the wormholes to make transit to their home nation easier, even better if they would fire on CtC bots (with an armor boost).

I think, Ghost, that anything TPG makes will be more widespread whilst something only nations make will fall into your "military only" category.

Here are two ways I see pirates acquiring military technology (including big ships):

1) By pirating! Ships are potential booty for any pirate. We'd have to implement disabling/capturing ships first (I'd love that), and if pirate bots can muster enough force, they can capture a military ship. This would happen very rarely, because first off, they're tough, second, they have escorts, and third, the pirates would have to be quick to escape reinforcements.

2) Buying them on the black market. If any player can get their hands on something (from small tech to cap ships) of military/government origin, they may sell it to a pirate if they wish, or use it themselves for pirating. Of course, if they're caught, there would be serious consequences....

Remember Pirates of the Caribbean? The two of them steal that huge military ship, even if just for a moment. If they'd had the manpower, they could have kept it.

LOL, that was one of my favorite scenes. "No, we're going to steal that one."

That, and Jack Sparrow's entrance on the sinking ship is one of the best character introductions in movie history. "It's a shilling to tie up your boat at the dock...." Classic. Off topic, though..
