Another possible EMP wpn

Instead of it being conventional forward-firing or homing, why not give it a 300m range and make it a radial blast- knocking out yours and any other battery's power in range.

Arolte read his post before commenting. Because he doesn't suggest a mine, rocket or missile.

UncleDave, this is the first EMP idea that I've like, all the other suggestions have been way too good for pirating, this one wouldn't be particularly good for pirating, but would be very good for protecting someone, like a noob or flag carrier.

So... it'll be like a protective shield or barrier? Won't this be as exploitable as rocket ramming though? Now we'll have EMP rammers now. Ram, engage EMP radius, and finish 'em off with lasers/rockets. If it does drain the EMP attacker's battery too, you can just have a teammate wait in the distance to finish the victim off easily. There would be no warning ahead of time for the victim either. It just wouldn't be fun.

Arolte, you bring up a good point that it would have to knock out your rockets for some period of time. Yes it would allow for double teaming, but if it didn't kill the batteries just drains them the person hit could dodge and run away fairly quickly, here's my suggestion for how it would work.

EMP blast
radius 200m (centered on the shooter)
energy cost: 250
effect: all ships in the blast radius (including the shooter and teammates) have their batteries reduced to 0, and cannot fire rockets for the next 4 seconds.
Size: I'm not sure. Part of me thinks it should be small... but on the other hand maybe it should be large. Input?

In dog fights your battery often hits 0 it's not that bad. If you have a fast charge battery you'll be shooting energy weapons again in no time. It's also fairly easy to avoid being hit if you're not trying to hit shoot anyone. The one thing you really won't be able to do is case a third person who is turboing away. This would also be a good defence against rocket rammers someone who is only using rockets will not recover as quickly as someone with a fast charge battery.
