Scriptable Missions

While I'm glad that the devs are working on graphical and AI enhancements, I believe that they are ignoring a more serious problem with the game: There is absolutely nothing to do. You can trade, and you can bot, and occasionally flag cap, but after a while there's a sense of emptiness that develops. The universe currently has 18 sectors and 17 pilotable ships, yet there is a painful lack of variety.

So I was flying aimlessly through the universe tonight and I came up with a cool idea. The devs don't really have time to create stories right now or construct missions, so why not let us, the players, do it for them. They could create a station BBS system where players could craft their own missions using scripts, anything from a simple "Deliver cargo X to sector Y, pay Z credits on completion" to "Get secret package A from station B, and take it to station C for analysis before taking it to its final destination at station D. Bots will attack you if scanned". This whole system could be implemented with a few simple, scriptable events, which would provide a whole wealth of creative possibilities. This would be a temporary solution of course, untill the official storyline is implimented, but I think it would help relieve some of the current tension between players in the game.

I don't knbow how easily your idea could be implimented, but I do know the devs have missions planned for the future.

Tempest, this is one of the big draw backs of testing, the game hasn't been made yet. If this is something that's really easy for them to do, then yes it would be worth while, but the priority in the test doesn't need to be entertaining the testers.

My question is this: Would the Devs accept any help from the community? I am the proud owner of a Newtek Lightwave license and also know many programming languages. I'd have a lot of fun designing some new ship hulls. improving the trading system of Vendetta, writing mission scripts, etc.

I understand that this poses a lot of technical/management issues, but they did say they are open source advocates :) Perhaps they're open to some free assistance.
