Guarding Convoys of NPC and Ion Storms unbalanced

May 10, 2007 EddyHolland link
Hi
Most (80%) of the time when I guard a convoy from A to F (via B..E), the route gets interrupted by an Ion Storm. Which is normal, and I expect.
Most of the time (80%) when that happens, the NPC convoy can jump out of the Ion storm *very* quickly, like as if it didn't affect them, or as if their exit point was infront and close by (500m?). However, mine is behind and far away (5000m?).
For example, if I choose to stay in close with these group mates to defend them, pretty quickly they will jump out of the sector, leaving me behind, turning to face a far away exit point.
My choice when arriving in an Ion storm is either
- close defend the NPCs (but miss out on jumping, get left behind)
- aim straight for my exit point and boost, effectively in an orthogonal direction to the NPCs, and keep up with them through the next jumps (but miss out on defending them during the ION storm)

If this happens twice on a run, the convoy will effectively 'lose' me, I won't be able to catch up. This seems (IMHO) unbalanced?

just a suggestion.
Thanks,

Yes, the exit points for different ships in an ion storm are different. I thought that if you were in a group that this might have been fixed, but then again I haven't tried a new escort misssion yet. So, it's somewhat broken I guess.

What’s your suggestion again, Foo Fighter?

Everyone's exit points are supposed to be the same now, but I think we've established there are still some problems. The whole mechanism controlling bots and convoys is currently being redone, I expect this problem will be fixed as part of that rewrite. The NPC convoys should (eventually) have no advantages or behave any differently than player characters.
