Fly-through Levi

May 11, 2007 Phaserlight link
I was thinking about the whole epic assault leviathan scenario and possible ways to improve on the current experience.

Taking down shields is a matter of organizing a coordinated strike, which does require some teamwork but is mostly a matter of timing. After clearing out the escorts it's almost ceremonial; get everyone together, get the same distance out, everyone open fire at the same time.

I was imagining what it would be like if it were somehow possible to fly a fighter squad through the levi to take out the shields, by destroying an internal shield generator. Among the challenges could be tight navigation and wall mounted defense turrets.

OOOh ala deathstar, cool idea. Yes it would make it more of a challenge than like you said a ceremony.

Definitely a superior approach; engineering an internal structure will be a bitch, tho.

YES YES YES.

Go play descent.

...

Plagiarize.

Seriously though, having battles inside of something would be really cool. You'd have to design a better way of making module structures; the stations lag the game like the dickens.

Heck, I've started botting inside hollow roids, it's lots of fun. It also allows you to pick off the Pyronis SF one or two at a time; really makes seekers into sitting ducks.

i still think hives should reside within ion storms...

levis/ queens are big easily targetable objects and would want as much cover as possible to hide themselves from any foe. this would also remove the ability to just set your distance from the levi and time when to fire your missiles.

And i love the idea of flying inside them to disable the shields

umm, just one question... how would you get inside it if the shields were still up?

If anything you should have to take down the shields FIRST, and THEN fly inside to damage the structure and break it apart or something.

Shields don't span gaps like a force-field, so you just fly in.
