spacestations can be SO MUCH MORE!!

I'm thinking a 3d view of the place (like "dreamcast star wars demolition" main menu or "dreamcast super runabout" or quite a few games I guess)... hit left and your facing the space bar. Left again and your facing the ship equipment and repair dealer, hit left again and you are facing the trade booth, left again and your' facing the Dock door to leave the station... every station could have a different background... maybe a drak booth in sector 15 'Cause of the black market... or maybe that could just be someone at the space bar.

Press the button when facing space bar and you're chatting with other people in the station... maybe some NPCs could chat and under certain circumstanes give some info about secret wormholes... (/givemoney [NPC]darktrader 20). Maybe just hanging in there for a while you could hear rumors... drunk NPCs could say stupid stuff too...

There was a game by activision like 15 years ago called "circuit's edge".. it had a very cool "bar interface"... you could buy drinks and food.. chat with barmans and other people.. Different bars in the city had different people and there was a different background and some different background music. Every space station's spacebar should be different too.

Or NO!! Check out this idea. Dock your ship as usual... but WAIT!! Picture this!! Instead of being presented with the boring tabby interface for buying weapons etc., you'll be walkin' around in realtime 3D with your space pistol holstered in your battle suit a la FPS style. You decide to go for a drink but you notice Icarus downing a few bottles of space vodka in the corner all by himself. Then all of a sudden you see this dude named Arolte at the other end of the bar whippin' out a space shotgun of some sort and blasting the crap outta Icarus. You see Icarus staggering for his last sip of space vodka as his ventilated body loses life with every second that passes by. Seconds later the loud thud of his blood and urine soaked body sounds as his hands finally lose grip from the table. The music stops for a moment... then plays again as if all normal. You look up and notice "Arolte has killed Icarus" in the chat menu and laugh to yourself. After witnessing this entertaining scene, you decide to get back to business and buy a badass stereo system for your EC-88. You know the space chicks will dig it. Ahhh, life is good.

I don't really like the idea, it kinda gives it that FPS feel to it.

Arolte, stop being descriptive in your posts! (shudders at the thought of urine soaked dead bodys)

I think the devs have already said that walking around in stations is not in for the first version of the Vendetta game, which is understandable, because it ammounts to making two games instead of one.

But, one can dream I suppose.

Still, I would like to see something like a Fallout/RPG style NPC interface for buying equipment, getting repairs, and so forth. You know, talking head, list of conversational choices, that sort of thing.

This is NOT walking around. You are facing... let's say a booth for buying and selling cargo.. it's the cargo menu.. you don't walk around.. you just press left once.. and it "transits" to the other place (menu)... it's like selecting a tab.. but it's nicer... the transition gives it a 3d look but it's just a tabed menu with background... and music etc etc...

chat inside station and NPC chating doesn't have anything to do with 3d either

But I wanna walk around and keel people...hmmm, walking around capital ships...

They've also said they are going to completely re vamp the stations. At the moment they are simply functional. Read vendetta news... there are like 5 things written there and the first one has a sentence addressing this.

Arolte you seem to be making a joke out of this. Have you noticed how different sectors have different asteroids and background... just from looking at the roids and the backgrounds you can sometimes tell in wich sector you are... Well the space stations should be like that too...

/me wants to walk around the planets too.

There is only so much variety you can pull out of outer-space... eventually it all starts looking the same.

Not really, but walking around planets would be SO COOL...
It could work just like portchop's idea about the stations, but instead you would have different views of the spaceport, research facilities, manufacturing plants, wilderness, etc...

I know this is not in the plans, but darn it if I were making this game it would be.

I think space stations that orbit planets and moons would be a good idea. Give us a better view of the worlds.

Gee, it would be so cool if they could model the entire universe down to say a 1cm scale. Like, it would be cool if you could land on a planet and get out of your spaceship and go to the casino and play video poker, or go down to the river and fish for space bass, or buy a monster truck and go crush cars.

/me pushes the magic wish fulfillment button, but alas the genie is all out of wishes.

Man, I really want to live in a world where everything I imagine involves absolutely no work, that would be cool.

/me pushes the magic wish fulfillment...

Dang, still no wishes.

Is anyone else thinking about IBM adds when they read celebrim's post?

Hehe... Yeah, actually...

I think celebrim's post sabotaged this thread. Very constructive celebrim, thank you.

I want tv in my spacestation, then I could like, watch sports or something instead of flying around.

--I didnt actually mean to post this one, was playing with some friends in real life. I am supportive in the prospect of beefing up stations for the rpg aspect of the game and I apologize for being an ass.

I think the best example of a low profile SpaceStation Interface would be something like PSO
Jun 12, 2003 UncleDave link
Hell, why not just throw in a Perfect Dark-style minigame in there too.

If people were encouraged to hang around in stations, nobody would bother playing the actual damn game. Like PSO.

Well, I think the framework for it ought to be developed. Imagine if you could have a team fly up to a station, undock, and capture the station in an interactive FPS-style assault...or do the same on a cap ship. I say "1337!!!" to the thought.
Jun 13, 2003 Sage link
The biggest thing we need in the station is enhanced chat features. That way, you can dock and plan things out with convenient buttons instead of having to type out cumbersome commands in that tiny interface.

Wait wait wait, there is a game with Vendetta? With shooting and stuff? Wow. I never knew. I've always goes by a slogan that fits Vendetta perfectly.

Vendetta: The multiverse's best looking chat box, ever.
