Seriously they suck, does anyone get excited when they hit one, no it's just a pain in the ass, why so many. Please just make them less frequent or removethem from the game altogether.

just learn to navigate around them.

yep. it's possible.

you're the only one complaining about them but they can be fun or challenging.

I think you meant that he's NOT the only one complaining about them.

WaveClimber

All you need to do is set a course that avoids flying "over" any sectors that contain asteroids (with the exception of stations - which never have storms). If you do this, you will almost always avoid seeing a storm at all.

You can use the SHIFT key to plot shorter jumps within a sector, and you can override the route that the mission computer selects for you.

No, I really think this guy's the only one complaining about them in the forums, and that's what uc means. The rest adapt.

I suppose he is the only one complaining on the forums at the moment. The complaints on 100 are numerous.

"Adapt" used to be such a dirty word here.

At any rate, WaveClimber, the storms are easily avoided. And they do have a purpose - I was able to catch up with somebody who was escaping with CtC cargo twice because they hit storms I had plotted around ahead of time (though sadly I failed to recover the cargo thanks to good teamwork on their part).

Yes, I too have used storms to my advantage to outmaneuver people who don't know the territory, so to speak. Natural barriers, rivers for example serve this same purpose. What would be neat is if there were a resource involved with ion storms, so that some people would actively seek them out, like one might go to a river to fetch fresh water.

Ma: "Billy, take this bucket and fetch us some fresh ions!"
Billy: "But ma!"

In jumpgate storms covered whole sectors and also varied in type , size and frequency. Our maps would show the storms moving thru the galaxy. I defiantly see storms at part of the game, but I agree that there are too many. It kind of lessens the effect when you go thru one every sector.

I would like to see persistent ion storms in some locations (eg. good mining spots, some combat zones, deep in gray space) and a much lower frequency on the random storms, if any.
Jun 13, 2007 Whistler link
They aren't really random. The same storms move around the map.

if you're really good, and bored, you can track em and make up a guild that will predict the weather!

Whoa, that sounds right up my alley. If surveying the universe around you for useful information sounds like your thing, join Mynt's exploration guild today!

I don't mind storms, except in LATOS! Just because there aren't very many roid sectors doesn't mean we should have a lot of storms in empty sectors to make up for it. It's annoying and impossible to avoid!

Mynt, your guild tag should be [ION]. You'd make a ton of money selling info before every Deneb Run.

True, smittens.

It would be WAY WAY COOL if the storms showed up on the navmap. It would make plotting around them a lot more interresting, and make them feel more like a feature and less like an annoyance.

Well, to me, at least.

Just DO NOT REMOVE THEM! They're pretty, their functionality is good and hunting in them is great fun.

High level, harcore pirates should have an addon available to them that lets them initiate ion storms in a sector....make this cost a set amount of specific commodites.

That way pirates would sometimes be able to disrupt convoys and other ships and what not...that would add to the coolness factor of this game.
Jun 15, 2007 SilentWave link
What about making only one exit point for all ships in an ion storm? I followed a convoy once and they jumped out of a storm about 11,000m from my own exit point. I was baffled.

Pirates could more effectively camp these exits in a Raptor, just like they camp wormholes.

Yeah a real aweful part of vendetta. I just stopped playing because I hit 6 of them in 20 min...

The time before that I also quit because of hitting them in those numbers.

And I cancelled my account, for now.
Jun 15, 2007 Whistler link
That's kind of extreme, given how easily they're avoided.

Perhaps we need to tweak the tutorial to emphasize how to navigate to avoid flying through sectors with asteroids in order to avoid storms.

I hit a storm about once a week, and that's only in those rare sectors where there doesn't appear to be any asteroids on the map. I just note those spots if I plan to travel the same route repeatedly.

SilentWave: They're working on the exit point issue right now. See a1k0n's post at the bottom of this page: http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/1/16781?page=2
