Bot Controller

I have an idea to add to the drone mission tree (those that require you to bring back processor cores). A while down the mission tree, there could be some mission to bring back a large number of specific cores (I only know about orrun and guardian cores) to make a special torpedo available.
My idea for a drone control module would be a missile that hits a specific type of drone, or up to a specific type of drone, (a TyCorp DCM would be able to affect an orrun) and changes its FoF settings and processes to make the drone essentially group with you and follow you around, shooting at enemies you target and hit a bound trigger for.
The module would only allow you to have one drone under your control at any one time (to avoid player-created bot swarms and to facilitate the next point). After a drone is controlled, the button that fires the control module makes the drone attack the target.
The module would essentially have the same maneuverability as a Gemini homing missile, but effect on impact, and do no damage/splash damage/kickback.
Let's call them DCMs.

This is a great idea, but will require another weapon widget. I say go for it - start working on the mission now, but make it so that you don't need to use a specific weapon to control the bot. Instead, make the mission spawn a bot for you like the escort missions. Designate an enemy via a different method, like a character you shoot. Develop missions that will send you and your escort bot to kill other bots for that station's nation. (like find the CEO becomes kill the CEO)

(On a side note, I sent in my application to the Player Contribution Corps, but why is it taking so long for them to reply? The sooner I get started, the more time I can have to write kick-ass missions.) EDIT: Ray said I should wait about a week.

I was thinking of the DCM to be something that latches to the hull of a drone, and reprograms it to an extent, as to get the desired effect of it being on "your side".

I'm not sure if that is possible given the tools you use in the PCC website, but for now I'd develop the mission structure and worry about details and how to explain them later.

Right now it's not feasible/easy to command a drone with the PCC mission tools, but it's not hard to make a mission that would award the specific Drone Control Module widget.

As a concept, the DCM is pretty cool. However, I think there would need to be limits(Variants geared for certain bots, success rates getting smaller as the bot gets larger?) so that everyone won't be running around with their own personal hive queen.

LOL.

Scuba Steve, pointing out the obvious details which would need to be in place for the entire idea to be even feasible (thank you), makes the rest of my idea, that had not surfaced, rather stayed as a subliminal thought/idea. My idea to a further, more in-depth extent would:
Fire a homing missile onto the droid, shoot out a hacking doodad into the bot (think like a harpoon) into the bot's circuitry (think fizzling electricity), and then engage an autohacking program that hacks the bot's FOF protocols, and makes you the equivalent of it's hive queen. To emulate your ship being the hive queen, it takes significant processing power, and can only control [insert reasonable number here] bots.
As another idea, you can control a certain number of Orrun Collectors, a less number of Dentek Collectors, an even less number of Artemis, and only 1 or 2 of the assault/guardian bots.

So then it's like the weapon draws processing power from your ship's battery. Specifically, your battery's recharge rate would delineate the maximum power your ship could disperse in order to control each bot. Have the battery spend x energy per second while maintaining control of a given bot. That way, you can only control so many bots as you can handle with your battery's recharge rate.

Also, you wouldn't be able to control a queen unless you destroyed the shield first.

What would be the point of controlling queens in the first place?
They just sit there...

mecha and i had a load of fun once having 16 queens followers. each. it's quite a sight to see 30ish queens duke it out.

then throw in another 16 uit queens for the good measure (were they erik's? i can't remember).

I call the Leviathan... >_>
But yes, I'd say if anything like this were to occur, it gets exponentially lower to be able to control a certain bot. Heck, even having a couple Arklan Guar. following a player around would make them a very difficult target.

But then the idea comes... would one then be able to use collector bots to mine for them? Hey, cap a couple Oruns/Kanniks and sit 'em outside a station.

Crap. You got to my idea first :(
