Mission Ideas

Let's put up some ideas for missions, or mission strings. Be as detailed as you can, and try to at least work within the scope of the engine's near-future capability (e.g. "You manage your starfleet like a strategy game and win the battle. Then you land on a planet and walk around in a full FPS mode killing womp-rats" won't work), but references to cross-system AI and reputation systems, both of which have been stated by the devs to be in the plan will. The idea here is to provide a pool of mission ideas for the future, when the time comes.

Starting simple...

Mission Title: Mithrilite Convoy Escort
Acquisition: Sector 14 Mission Board, all nations, player must have Combat Rating of at least Competent, and have a positive conduct record with the Mithrilite Guild.
Goal: Escort a convoy of three Mithrilite Guild Atlases (green accents) from Sector 14 to Sector 15. Loss of more than one ship will not be tolerated.
Results: All three ships escorted to 15 results in 150,000c, +1 to conduct and +1 to merit for the Mithrilite Guild. Arriving with two ships results in a 75,000c reward, and no merit or conduct bonuses. Any more loss, and the surviving ship will split for the nearest station and the mission fails, with a -1 hit to merit.

Mission Title: Sabotage
Acquisition: Nation Home Sector Mission Board, player must have Combat Rating of at least Competent and a Loyalty rating of Trustworthy or better.
Goal: Go to another nation's home sector station in a ship with a fake paint job and IFF transponder, dock, sabotage (a button available in a "special" tab when docking at hostile stations) and return home. Upon acceptance, you are issued a Centurion in the target nation's color that shows up as friendly to both involved nations, until you reach the target station and do your dastardly deed, at which point you are revealed to be hostile, and must escape under fire and get home.
Results: Successful completion results in +1 to Combat Rating and +2 to Loyalty and a 200,000c reward. Additionally, the target nation's home sector defense bots will not respawn at all for a period of 15 minutes. If you die, the penalty to bot-respawn is 10 minutes, and you get no reward, as you never officially existed.

Mission Title: Shipping order to s13
Acquisition: Sector 7, any nation
Goal: Bring 8 crates of weapons grade ore to s13.
Upon completion: 50000 credits, further help may be needed.

Mission Title: Shipping order to s5
Acquisition: Sector 7, any nation, previous mission must be completed, 2 minute wait.
Goal: Bring 10 crates of unspecified cargo to s5
Upon completion: 75000 credits
Upon Failure: Go back 1 mission.

Mission Title: Dangerous cargo to s11
Acquisition: sector 7, any nation, previous mission must be completed, 4 minute wait, combat of good.
Goal: Bring 14 crates of weapons to s11 station.
Dangers: 1 furrie will chase you in s11 (enters from wh you entered from 3 seconds after you enter.)
Upon completion: 100000 credits
Upon failure: retry mission in 1 minute, half credits received for completion on retry.

Mission Title: Bloackade
Axquisition, sector 7, any nation, previous mission must be completed, 30 minute wait.
Goal: Protect 2 marauder class ships to sector 17.
Escorts: 2 marauder class ships, 2 centurion class ships (weapons = tach)
Upon completion: 400000 credits
Upon failure: Find 200000 credits, retry in 5 minutes.

The great (and difficult) thing about missions in a MMORPG is that they could effect each other.

Mission Title: Destroy Mithrilite Convoy Escort
Acquisition: Sector 18 Mission Board, all nations, player must have Combat Rating of at least Competent. Conduct record does not matter.
Goal: Intercept a convoy of three Mithrilite Guild Atlases that are rumored to be making a run from Sector 14 to Sector 15. Allowing all three ships to live will not be tolerated.
Results: Each ship killed results in 150,000c, +2 to pirate relations, +1 to black-market trade, -1 to conduct and -1 to merit for the Mithrilite Guild.
