Looking Behind
I'm almost certain this has been suggested before, but i couldn't find anything. Be nice if you could take a peak behind you with out boost breaking. Also, if you're using mouse look i guess it would look behind the ship model not the hud, cause they aren't always pointing the same place.
Yes.
Heh. For traders would be nice to be able to fire backwards while boosting aside from the mines.
What about the radar that shows the rearward 180° solid angle? Because the HUD is very cluttered as it is.
A turret mode would be most beneficial. By pressing a key the view would switch to one where the player can see 360 with the mouse without changing course. Players with turrets mounted can fire in any direction while still attempting to escape. Pirates will have more challenge if they have to deal with incoming rounds while they pursue their victims...
I know it came up years ago in the Alpha, the idea of 360 degree "auto-turrets". More specifically, myself and several other players suggested that the AGT turret should be able to "Auto-Target" off the HUD when a button was pressed. ie: The turret would automatically track whatever radar target the player selected. The turret would also change targets if the player selected another target.
Additionally the turret would not drain the battery below 35%, still allowing the player to make a FLT jump to another sector, but not to a new system. Accuracy would decrease, but it might be enough to deter an attacker.
As for looking behind you, it only makes sense that many cars on the market today have back-up cameras, it seems only logical that thousands of years from now we could mount something similar on the back of a starship to provide coverage on our 6.

I just wanna know how close those swarms actually are and to see how far that person attacking me is out, without changing targets. No need for turrets and the like, just a look see, much like in the old flight sims (i haven't played one in a while).
We have a function to change the field of view. Just need two more for changing the angles, and the player base can bind a rear view mirror, and whatever else we need.
Enthusiasts that play the game with multiple monitors might find a way to set up their fields of view accordingly.

I can see it now.. 3x20" LCDs in front, 1 direct in front, flanked on each side by an angled one, plus a small 6" one mounted on top of the main lcd providing the rear view.. awesome.
