Top Ten Things To Create Fun In VO (without the Doom)

Well, I want unaligned status. Hell, being KOS with all major nations has no advantage.. and I'd like it to have some. Till then, its the same old grind.. level up, level down.. rinse and repeat. (nation standing wise)

Tridents may look like they fly with loaded moths but something tells me if you were to fly one one keyboard mode you'd be holding the directional keys for a second or 2 before they even moved...

But! they do at least look flyable now. I remember their first trek into the universe convoys a couple years ago they always looked like they were flying sideways

Now down to business. I would really like a sensor mine

I would also like a message mine.

Whats this you ask?

Well you place it somewhere then you set a message in it like "Welcome to pelatus, this space belongs to me, go away!" and whenever anyone enters the sector with that message bouy/mine it tells them that!.

Also. Stop making things that aren't mining beams (like ships) need mining XP.

NO ONE WANTS TO MINE

Unless they are a social introvert.

But seriously you go to buy a taur or moth and the dealer is seriously going to say "oh i don't know...you don't know how to mine...that may seriously hinder your ability to fly a ship" cause you know....sitting still for hours on end shows you how to fly a ship.

I find it funny that people are complaining about the licenses for ships.

Yes some vehicles you do need special licenses for. CDL class A, CDL class b, Motorcycle, Restrictions to driving due to vision, mental stability, whether it is and aircraft, watercraft, weight of the vehicle, functionality, forklifts, dump trucks, construction, military.

And same with weapons, those less obvious for some, carry permit, conceal permit, different state/province regulation, firearm, projectile, blade, black powder, automatic, semi-automatic, explosives. Some places also require you to register yourself as a weapon if you have had ANY martial training, whether Military or of Civilian.

Recently to be issued a weapon from national guard unit, whether for a detail or weapon qualifications, we have to sign a "domestic abuse" form saying that we have not been convicted of a domestic abuse or we cannot have our rifles.

My suggestions:

1. Economy, with all its nuances.
2. Bug fixes.
3. Anything else is icing.

Little messy posting I did for economy, but simple enough with what we have.

Keep it simple guys. This isn't the VO long-term wishlist, but a "what would you like to see in the next two months that's easy to do" list.

"what would you like to see in the next two months that's easy to do"

Unaligned faction, available as a "renounce your citizenship" mission.

If you don't want to make a mission, just do a freakin'
#/bin/sh

for character in CHRN; do; cat $character | sed -e 's/faction=.*/faction="Unaligned"/' > $character; done

My vote is for adding conquerable stations in grey space. There doesn't even have to be any real benefit to owning a station, just have them there, once conquered permit the owner to rename the station to whatever they want, and people will lay claim to them and defend them with all they've got (people like CrazySpence for example...) :) Cooler features and enhancements can be rolled out later.

An old school CTF sector would be lots of fun. Though I don't know how easy that is to re-impliment.

More turret weapons would be fun too, anything that promotes team work and interaction adds to the immediate fun.

Unique weapon drops would be cool, though not as cool as the other additions. I'd love to have a +3 Incarnate's Wrath Torpedo or a -6 Lecter's Trolling Turret... :D :D

Mine would obviously be a megaposi that shoots nothing but win

Reset the race tracks records every month, give the winner a badge and a million creds for the track they won.

Keep the top records (which are probably the current ones) on some type of page

No one wants to race on those tracks when there is a crazy record on them already

Ladron: On the turret thing, I don't recall the specifics, but I believe it's due to how object parenting was implemented, for local vs remote (player) objects. We never intended for visible, destructable turrets to be on player ships, as the intention for capships was to have essentially sector-controlled vessels that you would "navigate" via a homeworld-like 3D interface. The bigger capships are really tough to fly and that seemed the most realistic option. Thus, the whole "turret" and object-parenting problem has only cropped up since people have pushed more for the "capships now! just let us fly them!" thing, which is a divergence from the development track we chose for this feature.. years ago. Of course, with the capship AI improvements lately, it's probably also more realistic to do them the "originally intended way" as well.

Unalignment has repercussions other than simply changing something in a database. There is still code out there that assumes alignment of one sort or other, not to mention missions and other things. I'm all for adding un-alignment, and we'll look at it, but it hasn't been the A1 priority.

Brawny/Spence: I like the CTF and racetrack stuff. We also need to do more with dueling, and the rankings thereof (badges for above certain rank numbers, periodic "championship" bouts that count for some sort of time-limited status.. "dueling grandmaster of the week" or something. etc)

Inc. Said: Leebs.. this thread is for "small and simple" suggestions, not "redo the universe, economy; add crafting, landable planets, ponies".

So can I put you down for a NO on space ponies? Many groups which I represent will be upset to hear that news, it may affect your poll standings before the mid-term elections.

OK, so if it's small and simple I suggest just keep going with the bugfixes and then put that whole faction fix into effect. That'll fix a lot of whining, I think.
Maybe implement the whole "capturable" system thing in Deneb if that's not too much trouble.

I dunno, to make things more "fun" maybe send out emails to all the old vets saying something like "LeberMac describes your piloting skills as sub-feeble, and demands you rejoin him ingame for fighting in Sedina at your earliest convenience."

Yay.

What do you mean, no space ponies! What kind of horrible non-suggestion is that? This will mean the end of VO surely.

And to echo Pointsman, Yay!

Look, a SPACE pony

Reading the comment on doing more with dueling, I had an idea that may have been suggested but I haven't seen. Tournaments could be a player run activity like NW. They would need a sign up/registration ahead of time and a contestant pyramid would have to maintained by someone. and bouts scheduled. The end result would be a this (time period between tournaments) champion of all VO PvP. I'm sure there are players who would go for this chance to settle who is really the best. it would need rules like NW, but I bet it would add a whole new aspect to PvP combat. Eventually you could have tournaments for previous champs, and classes for length of subscription, combat levels, etc. if the activity grew enough. It would be easier if there was a utility in game for the host to use to place people on the gaming schedule.

Change the map to create a choke point that encourages more player interaction. My suggestion is to change the Latos worm holes. Put all three worm holes in a single sector, about 3000 m apart. Add a 4th WH to Deneb. This would be an excellent place to put the first conquerable station.
Nov 04, 2009 rg10 link
Cool idea missioncreek2,

Lets go all the way, put 4 wh's directly in Odia M14, spaced a large distance 5-6 k from the station in the center. Lots of roids too;

one to Deneb
one to Azek
one to Bractus
one to Sedina

Corvus Stonghold is a black market commercial "hub" is it not (or can it not be)? As a hub it is now connected to each major faction. Since the three factions are connected simultaneously, neither of the three can put em-battlements (turrets) inside M14 because of the tri-polar power balancing. The result, is the current lawlessness we have now.

Remove the NFZ in M14 also. Put a small number of corvus turrets on the azek hole that only shoot at UIT cap-ships that come through. UIT sends a cappie through every once in a while to screw with the rats and park in the hole; which gives traders periodic respite and docking point when they enter. The cappy is hostile of course to anything hostile UIT.

If the rats really want to take down the cappy, they can team up.

Odia is also a good placement, because it is equidistant from Jallik and Pyro/Initros.

Ehh.. Not a big fan of 'superhub' systems.
clarification: Such a superhub would be a big giant shortcut into nationspaces. Greifers would have much easier access through such a system, and the fast travel would have all sorts of exploits in it...(atleast I imagine it would)

Just make already in-place chokepoints more.. chokey.
ie Decrease the jump radius for B8 to like 750-500m rather than 1000.
