Make add ons more usefull

Jun 04, 2010 Roda Slane link
Some people think that using a weapon port to equip an add on is too high a price to pay for the functionality of the add on. I disagree on some points, but I do agree that there are add ons that I do not use.

This thread is to suggest re-balancing of add ons to make them more attractive to use in place of that extra weapon.

my two cents.

Stack ability: I wish some add ons would stack to enhance existing add ons. If you add a small radar extender to a raptor, it can see 2500m. I would like to see most/all add ons stack this way, to encourage multiple add ons. The benefit does not need to be linear. the first small extender could add 500 range, the next 400, 300, etc. it might be interesting to measure range by volume of space rather than radius.

radar extender - I like the small. the heavy is a tad heavy.

cargo scanner - like it. use it. range is a tad weak.

port scanner. - I don't use it. i might use it if it was very light and had good range.

scanner spoofers - what? no heavy port versions? I might use it if i was the kind of trader that had established bribe routes and really just didn't want my "escorts" knowing what i was carrying.

did I miss anything?

Group Radar Extender, though all I know about it is that I have to change my pants every time I catch a voy full of them.

actually if you want one of the pointless stations and it is in a storm you can make one of your allies your eyes with the group radar so the item itself has a purpose and will be useful in the long run once other things become useful

Perhaps we could get a stacking effect for cargo scanners. Two of them will cancel out a spoofer or blocker. Two spoofers or blockers will successfully block two cargo scanners. This continues on and on?

@OP: We either need an equipment port, or we need our add-ons to be far more conscious of the fact that they are taking up a weapon port (which is where the OP comes in).

I made that suggestion when scanners/blockers were first introduced. It was shot down.

Moreover, we have had these add-on conversations before (and in fact we've had them multiple times), and only a few months ago at that.
