Lua Events: PLAYER_DIED

Hello all,

Firstly I would like to point out I am not am expert programmer so some comments may pass me by.

My friends and I have recently been looking a writing and event plug-in and are not having much luck with the PLAYER_DIED event it seems that it does not trigger all the time.

Please can we have this work for everyone within the sector?
I think there are quite a few people would like this too...

Many Thanks, Morphix.

PS This could really help with player run events.

I'd love to have the PLAYER_DIED event work for everyone in-sector, not just people who kill or are killed by yourself. Perhaps there could be an option to display all deaths in chat to go along with this.

The plugin is already written - we just need the event to work :)

If there are known exploits for the PLAYER_DIED event, would the devs please give us enough information that we could start a dialog on how to get around this for player events.

Thanks!

What event do you have in mind that would require this?

Ah, back in alpha/beta the event was sent to everyone in sector, but it was removed in the belief that VO would be full of players, and seeing *soso destroyed soso* could potentially be a lot of spam (and server traffic).

Maybe they could send the Lua event to everyone in sector, but only print the *soso destroyed soso* message to people involved in combat.

All sounds good; There are many events that this could be fun with. We sometimes run pvp training events and it would be fun to see how many of the kills and deaths there were compared to each other. (even first to x kills or first to die x times is out)

In fact I'm sure there are lots of fun games that could be made from it, we would maybe hold a regular event once its up and running.

So Dev's what's the verdict ? any chance of the event function or something similar ?

Thanks. Morphix

Yes, I can see this being a useful plugin, if a small change makes it possible.

I can see a bunch of useful stuff that could be made from this!
About spam from death-notices, even if the event carries the information the GUI doesn't HAVE TO display it...

There are ways to do this without having everyone in the sector get all death messages, but it requires everyone involved to install a plugin (send a private message to the tournament bot whenever you kill/die, for example).

Having the bot actually observe kills/deaths would make it less likely to be cheated on as well!

it used to show sector wide who died in the alpha days...

Well, yeah, but they weren't exactly user-accessible Lua events, were they? ;-)

BUMP!

+1. This would be very useful for player-organized events, such as Faille's Blargian BoomFests.

Note: The OP is only asking for lua events, not chat notifications. This means your client would not actually show anything when people die (no spam); it would just receive an event internally to let it know, the same as it does when people enter/exit the sector, etc. People could then have plugins that listen for that event and record it (if they're doing a "kill as many people as you can" contest) or show a notification or whatever they want.

Possible mis-use in the future if it fired to anywhere in the sector
