Moth Miner II variant: 2 small + 2 large ports

Oct 14, 2010 Conflict Diamond link
Incarnate, you said yesterday this would be an easy add, so I'm following up with a renewed request for a 2 small port + 2 large port variant of the Behemoth Heavy Miner MkII. Not to look the gift horse in the mouth: 3 HD beams fills the 160 cu hold quite quickly, but at the cost of a higher ending temp than 2 HE + 2 HD. The built-in scanner solves the grid-max puzzle of that beam combo on a rag, and a moth's cargo space alleviates the need to "strip mine".

I'd love to see Tunguska produce an even heavier miner requiring BM4, but I'll save that for another post. If it is indeed an easy thing to provide the option as stated, ORE would appreciate it.

You guys need your heads examined.

You're one to talk.

OP: +1! Though 2x HD, 1x HE, an improved beam, and an advanced scanner fit on a rag, in my opinion 2x HD and 2x HE with a scanner would be a worthy reward for BMIV.

+1, Further it would be nice if all levels that currently do nothing would lead to a slight advantage in the field they are. Say every trade level above (is it 10?) could make the XC torque or speed improve 1%, every level of mining above 12 could reduce heating by 1%, each combat level above /whatever) could improve armor by 1%, every heavy heavy weapon level above max useful could increase weapon speed by 1% (of some kind) or similarly reduce energy usage. Then as soon as something useful at that level is introduced the improvements could be shifted down as the max useful level is increased.

we need to get our heads examined.

Oh, and while you are at it: Please implement the level V achievements so there is something worth coming back for...:)

+1! BMIV would be a really nice goal to reach for miners if such a ship was available in the verse. and tunguska would actually provide sth special concerning mining, which makes sense :)

@ninjal: No. My driver's license does not make my car go any faster than it would without. I realize you mostly intend it as a temporary reward until something more normal is implemented, but still, No. If you must have some kind of small impact, have it impact item prices.

Head examinations, check.

Moth Mine II Variant, +1.

Basic Miner IV achievement ship, +1. Suggestion, 750cus minimum cargo capacity and not in a Behemoth package.

@Pizzasgood: Being a more experienced driver allow you to drive more efficiently, even without thinking about it, you react more quickly, handle obstacles better etc. Prices are mostly meaningless. Perhaps better prices would make sense for pvpers? Anyway, having a 1% better version of the best item for each level above would also work. Also, if it is something you buy, making them plenty expensive would be good too. Say doubling price for each 1% improvement. Would make prices more meaningful.

Yes, but my license has absolutely nothing to do with that. It's just a piece of plastic proving that the government considers me to have sufficient skill to use the roads.

Remember, this is a twitch game, not a stat-based game. Your experience directly translates to your performing better. Just like in real life, the licenses are only the game's way of recognizing and quantifying your actual level of skill (which, just as in real life, is not always accurate...).

Think about it this way: Skill creates licenses. Not the other way around. You have a license because you have skill. You do not have skill as a result of having the license.

It makes sense for licenses to impact what you're allowed to buy, what missions you're allowed to do, who will deign to talk to you, how much things cost, and whether the "authorities" will attempt to apprehend you for performing some action or possessing some object. It just doesn't make sense for licenses to impact your "skill" directly.

+1 to interesting moths.

+1 ... more efficiency in mining leads to the ability for more miners to mine desired rocks and also leads to a more stable economy.

ok, Pizzasgood & Ninjal, thanks for the input, but stop hijacking the thread, please. Your debate has nothing to do with my very specific request to which you both posted a +1. I have a "Miner's Manifesto" in the works this week that addresses all the tweaks I'd love to see regarding mining, and will welcome and no doubt inspire endless debate and tangent, but for this one request, I would love clear approval or disapproval of the idea.

I can't see anything game-changing in this port layout. It is a request I asked all too late on the original Moth Miner II thread, and I only request it now because Incarnate said that offering the variant would be easy.

Heh, CD. You'll never be satisfied until you can load a TPG Constellation up with mining beam turrets and park that puppy in the middle of an asteroid field and fly off with 1000cu of ore. :P

+1 to more moths with a small port. Just about the only ship in the game you'd WANT a scanner spoofer or blocker on, and you can't use it.
