Mako Anti-Shipping Torpedo

Feb 26, 2011 vIsitor link
In the recent Reaper Ragnarok thread, it was suggested that before we make any new bomber variants that we really ought to introduce some proper bombs (rather than the Swarms that are favored currently as a stop-gap measure). This is my attempt to remedy that.

Some of you might recognize the name; its a reuse of the designation for an anti-capital missile I suggested back in '08 that, in spite of generally positive reception, didn't quite make the cut. Hopefully this revisitation will fare better.

Name: Mako Anti-Shipping Torpedo
Damage: 6000
Velocity: 65m/s
Energy: 0
Grid: 8
Delay: 2s
Mass: 3000kg
Splash: 45m
Detonation: Contact
Ammo: 10
Lifetime: 40s
Level: -/-/8/-/-

EDIT: Damage increased to 6k; Grid increased to 8.

Inc has talked about adding back in torpedos (the avalon) once they can get the capships to reliably target ordnance. And I am defiantly looking forward to that day.

I call bullshit - Itani are definitely incapable of defiance.

Damage is a teeny bit low. Only 16k more than a swarm tube... up it to 6000/shot?

Damn you dyslexia and spell check! Lecter, I should just hire you to proof read my forum posts.

What tarenty said. These need to replace the current method of bombing, a tube of chaos swarms does 34,000 damage. So to reiterate some some, they could use a bit more damage to make them worth it for the weight. I would also add a grid usage limit to them, of maybe 8. These stacked with gems would be way too nasty, possibly balance breaking. And yes I realize the speed differences of the 2.

Sure thing - I start at $675/hour, WoS. Given the relative infrequency and brevity of your posts, a $15,000 retainer should suffice for me to get started.

HHmmm... why not make this different, instead of more of the same?

Make it an EM warhead. It does huge damage to shields, ( ~50.000 ), but almost no damage to hulls.

Then, its changed specs goes as:

Damage: 50.000/shields, 500/hull (No shields? worst than a gem)
Velocity: 100 m/s (faster than any missile, this is hi-tech) [fixed, was 90]
Energy: 460 (requires a heavy cell to launch)
Mass: 5000kg
Splash: 150m
Detonation: Contact
Ammo: 2
Maneuvrability: Medium

maybe another topic for it?

Stingrays go 95m/s, Alloh.

+1 to OP and to bringing back Avalons and being able to target bombs and shoot them down :)

Though i really think a proper anti-capship torpedo/bomb should do a lot of damage, have a small magazine, and be nearly impossible to hit a fighter with outside of some really stupid situations.

@tarenty;Capt.Waffles:

Thanks for the feedback. I admit that I deliberately stat'd the Mako rather conservatively, as to prevent it from being too overpowered. The OP will be edited to reflect your suggested changes shortly.

@Alloh:

Yes, please make another topic. I encourage constructive criticism, but hijacking other peoples' suggestion threads by mutilating the original idea beyond all recognition is simply annoying. Please refrain from doing so in the future.

I was thinking about this, and i like the idea of them stacking 'automagicly' by going 65m/s. Going that speed makes you a sitting duck to stack them. A good trade off. Even tapping around 80-90 can get you away from most NPCs.

Alloh... that doesn't have enough firepower to deshield one trident with two players.

Thanks for the consideration Nikan.
