It's been suggested before. I don't think the devs are opposed - just not a high priority.

Isn't there a plugin that does it? Repaint ships according to Guild/Other status?

I believe the plug-in only sets the ship color on initial purchase. There is currently no mechanism to change the color of an existing ship, plug-in or otherwise.

does it make a difference? fly around guardian storm sectors and you're bound to be boomed quickly enough to never need a repaint. ships are so disposable it's like painting a paper plate..right before throwing it away.

Well it would be kinda cool, particularly if you were to join or change guilds.
