Docking sequence
I suggest that you dock on automatically if you fly into a docking port, because if you got a high ping, or it's getting laggy, you could crash.
Uh oh! Better call the Waaahmbulance!
Seriously though, docking isn't hard at all, even in laggy situations, unless you are either going very fast or flying a very heavy load - and in both of those situations, it is supposed to be difficult and you should be careful.
Anyway, even if you do crash it isn't a big deal. It will only slightly damage your ship. Try it sometime. I literally bounce off of the station with a heavy behemoth several times a week and take almost no damage from it. You have to be going pretty fast to be hurt significantly. Crashing is only dangerous when you are already seriously damaged. And of course, in that situation it is supposed to be dangerous and you should be careful.
The biggest issue docking ever gives me is wasting time when I screw it up while carrying a heavy load, because then I (mostly harmlessly) bounce off the station and have to regain control of the ship and make a second approach, which is a slow process when you are carrying a moth full of stolen weapons. But that only happens when I get impatient and don't dock with the proper care.

+1. make it uninterruptible with a speed limit of 0.01 m/s

I can't tell if you're just absolutely stupid or are trying to attempt to troll.
Quick tip: bind a mouse button to "ACTIVATE". Something like B3 (wheel click) do fine.
I got a 7-button mouse, and it makes much easier to dock!

Oh yeah, good point. I forgot that the default controls have activate way out in the middle of nowhere instead of a quick-to-reach place. On my setup I have it bound to a side button on my joystick. Having it easy to reach makes docking at high speed a lot safer.
