Extend log out time

Jun 07, 2011 pirren link
At moment people abuse "log off" to avoid combat, even piloting Tridents, so I suggest following changes:

1. Extend log off time to 30 sec.
2. If player is under attack or receiving damage make it impossible to log off even if pilot manually disconnects.

this is already done Pirren. If you /msg someone the logoff timer goes from 10 to 30 seconds. It was done to prevent people from logging (you can read the whole thread to see how it came about) for the exact reasons you mentioned

But why then people still fast log?

Anyways 30 sec is not enough for big and huge Trident :}

Maybe simply quitting without logging out is instantaneous?

You can't keep people from quitting VO...

Maybe ships should float in space for a few minutes after the player actually logs out/quits VO, and then disappear. If they die they relog at their home station.

"Maybe ships should float in space for a few minutes after the player actually logs out/quits VO, and then disappear. If they die they relog at their home station."

Assuming this wouldn't be overly hard to do, it seems a reasonable fix.

Making ships float AFTER the timer is just mean. The timer is there so you can at least pay attention to what's going on before you disappear. I'm all for increasing the post-hail logout timer though. 30sec is longer than it will take for even the fastest ships to cross a big sector and start firing.

Maybe add a "/logout now" or "/exit" option that logs out immediately but leaves your ship floating for the duration of the timer for those who're impatient or have real life to attend to?

I'd personally use such a feature since i often have to log off quickly but my joystick's sloppy deadzone will reset the timer. In this case i end up just killing Vendetta via the OS...

Uhm, what the fuck is wrong with you people? How in the world is it possible for you to know so little about the game you play so much?

If you force-quit the game, your ship is left floating in space until the server decides that your connection has been dropped and isn't coming back, which takes a good deal longer than ten seconds.

That is to say, EVERYTHING YOU FUCKING NEWBS HAVE SUGGESTED IS ALREADY PART OF THE GAME, YOU IDIOTS*.

*Granted, I'm not entirely sure if taking damage aborts your logoff countdown, and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't stop the server from dropping your timed-out connection, so maybe that bold statement is not entirely true.

Besides that, I would think that the best way to deal with capships and logging off would be to leave the damn thing floating in space.

They log out so fast by using a long standing and reported logout exploit wherein you use a second VO client to log in on the same account, which immediately logs you out from the game. It is literally an instant logout and your ship will vanish, even under fire and while being PMed. This exploit is frequently used by traders moving big cargoes who don't want to risk losing them. I'm sure we'll see it used more and more as more tridents are constructed.

Damn it Tumble, now I'm going to have to find some other way of getting XCs of faction rebuilding cargoes around UIT space :P

I didn't log, Pirren. I threatened to because I had just handed you a user key to come aboard, as one might with people on their buddy list (even rats), before you started shooting. I got to Latos and hopped around enough to shake off Xiuhcoatl (whose rag was out of missiles by then anyway) and I assume lost him in the fog of M7.

BTW, thanks for starting the thread that taught me how to exploit a second client. Never knew that one, but then, I've never logged from combat before.

Happy to help CD. This has been a known issue for years, but since I didn't exploit it, I guess no big deal right? Maybe if I start posting every exploit still available in the game the devs will fix them?

You mean vo isn't perfect? It isn't possible to CHEAT. Those are features, not flaws ;)

I will have to have had a REALLY bad day before I arm you boys with the ability to call me a "cappie logger", but I think I'll still be able to sleep at night if 6+ months grind inspires one act of cowardice. Once we get a few more trial runs and crew trainings, and ORE gets to mine some sweet bot-protected sectors, AND Incarnate assures me the insurance mission is in place, I will either bring it fully crewed and escorted to Nation War, or some other arranged war game to triumph or die. Until then, If I get gang raped by rats as I mosey about, I will attempt all the escape plans I have come up with, and failing those I will /explode to deny anyone the killshot screendump. All they will have, if they are fast enough to hit f12, is the explosion and the notice "Conflict Diamond is having issues"... (as if everyone didn't know that already)

Pirren, you'd have better forum fodder if you'd gotten a screen dump that says "Entering Conflict Diamond" as you docked ;)

/explode cancels if you take damage from another player. I know this from trying to use out-of-ammo ammo ships as bombs in buswars :)

News to me. You're certain it wasn't from an errant control input? Oh well... I'll just have to carry a nuke in the nearly useless single large port, or maybe the devs will let me manufacture a Genesis device...

I will in the future ;) Actually you need to park your cappie in Europe!
