Avalons!

The avalons are to kill the frigate - which used to be killable but currently is not. It's true, there are several threads involving what to do with them to make them less annoying.

ok i have a few suggestions about these avalon torpedo launchers. why are they even here they have absolutely no point to them whatsoever, all they are is an annoyance. recently i had some problems with some of the people with nukes. well most of the time it is instant nuking with proximity mines and avalons. and i held my patience telling them to please stop insta nuking and they didn't stop at all (not that i expected them too)and that is when it got to me and then thought what are the avalons here for anyway just to annoy people and make them mad? "And my suggestion was to take the avalon out of the game."

Actually, this discussion's been done to death, back to life, out of its grave, paraded around town and talked back to death again. Twice. Or more than that, I can't recall. Check the archives, but beware the C.H.U.D.s

Forum Moderator that is the thing i don't understand the Frigate is not killable any more so why bother keeping the avalon when it has no use anymore so why keep a useless weapon why don't the devs get rid of the avalon now and then take it back if they decide to make the Frigate killable then it will be easier and we won't have so many complaints about the avalon.

Guys, the avalon is not the problem, its station nuking. Avalons can be very useful when not exploiting with them. The stations will have a "No fire zone" hopefully that if your fire in them you lose reputation points, or you can't dock at that station anymore until you do something for them like a mission.

Dont forget ye dreaded insta-nuke...

Reputation systems are part of the solution. Nuking a nuetral station should change its nuetrality in a hurry.

Also, once los code is implemented (pretty pretty please) station nuking will be less of a problem because the station itself will shield most potential victems from the attack.

Why don't we wait until money becomes scarce again before we complain about the Avalon. It is an outrageously expensive weapon to buy, and exceedingly clumsy to use without killing yourself. So lets reserve the complaints until after the reset.

"So lets reserve the complaints until after the reset." Magus that is what i am asking for at the reset the devs get rid of the nukes they aren't here for anything so why are they bothering to have them that is what i am asking for the reset.

"its station nuking" This is the second most annoying one thank you for pointing that out Phoenix1 i forgot completely about it, but back on the subject this is a pretty annoying thing not only does it not make the game fun it makes it very very annoying.
Example: Lets say you are having a duel and it has been 10minutes and you get a little closer to the station, just when you are about to win and kill the 0% person Kaboom! you are blown to smitherines by someone on that persons team.

Example2: Another example is you are going to s17 trying to find s18 after an hour of trying to find s18 (or 30minutes)you finally find s18 and warp. As you enter s18 you see there is 1 other person there, but you figure they are AFK so you go to the station ready to home and they see you coming and Boom!! you are instantly gone back to your last homed sector. This has happened to me i was agrivated and ready to blow up.

Those are 2reasons why station nuking is annoying.

Station nuking has less to do with the avalon and more to do with taking advantage of the docking system. The avalon just happens to be especially effective at it. I find swarm spammers who sit in the dock, unload their payload and dock again are even more annoying than nukers. At least nukers you can just stay away from. Swarms you actually have to fly around and dodge. I don't see anyone calling for an abolition of homers though.

avalons are part of the final game design, they are there to take out large capital ships. they weren't meant for ship to ship combat sector0. maybe they should be taken out until the cap ships are added, but I dont think so, they aren't so hard to avoid, and station nuking will be fixed when reputation and neutral station defences are introduced sometime in the future. meanwhile, it's a test, maybe the devs want to see how we can make an anti-cap ship weapon useful in fighter to fighter combat.

"avalons are part of the final game design, they are there to take out large capital ships" Please tell me where on earth you see a capital ship on vendetta the first frigate is a rock now i know the avalons are taken away but there are absolutely no capital ships around anymore until we go farther on this thread i would like you to point out a cap ship for me besides the rock frigate. Cause it seems like you dont understand the cap ship is gone no offence. But until i see a cap ship we can talk about this, until then please no more replies.

Avalons are no longer purchasable.

Which came first, the nuke or the frigate? The nuke. Thus, there was a use for them before the frigate came around.

a1k0n likes nukes. I saw him playing with them. He likes rockets too.

If there was a Sheild around the station, maybe to like 300m out, where missiles/bullets just impact agianst the sheild are destroyed and don't detonate, that would pretty much do away with all the station greifing problems. 'Course, then what good is the nuke then? It's too slow, too hard to aim, and is overkill for most ships now in the game. Maybe when more capitol ships are put in, and made available to players, then the nuke may come to use.

Ok since there is no more nukes for sale FM please close this thread.

Thanks Forum Moderator

It probably would have died quietly had you not posted in it. However, I'm sure we will go through all of this again when they are available again.
