YAFT (Yet another Flares topic)

furball: I get the point. My point is that the already successful Sunflare has been getting more successful as other things have been changed, and so to really solve the problem might require looking at some things other than the Sunflare.

Basically, all I want changed on the Sunflare is 1) move the cycle rate down to .75s to reduce player's ability to 'spam' an area with rockets, and 2) move the ammo capacity down to 12. I think the only reason that the high ammo capacity was tolerable was that the Prom was such a tough nut to crack before it got easier to hit and easier to break. Now that we don't have that problem, we can afford to make players be stingier with thier rockets.

But there are alot of other things that need changing before thier is balance, and this unwavering focus on one thing at a time isn't going to do it.

For example, the Prox mines really need to become small weapons. Sluggish ships really need overrun deterence (remember 3.1.x?), but they can't always afford to waste a Large slot weapon on it. Most of the Large weapons need to improve slightly in some fashion - Screamers are fast, but they need to be 15-20m/s faster before they are feared. Jackhammers need 16 rounds. Plasma cannons need to be significantly harder hitting (maybe 1600 damage) than Gauss, not just slightly. Railguns really really need to be unnerfed. They are such a perfect alternative to rockets. I hit someone at 950m with one not too long ago, but they use about twice the energy they need to and only do about 2/3rds the damage needed to intimidate a rocket user. Tweaking power consumption, thrust, and max cruising speed on the engines now that boost tapping is harder wouldn't be a bad idea either. The regular gatling needs to become much more energy efficient. Other than the guass, most of the energy weapons need some sort of improvement - better cycle rate on the gravs, more speed on the tachys, lower energy consumption on the ions, etc.

I'm not saying all (or even any) of that would be a final fix, but I'd rather play test it than totally changing one probablimatic weapon.
