Encourage forum use for lite subs
Problem: Potential players guage game activity by forum activity. The RP forum is lacking in content and activity, leading players to assume the game is low population whether it is or not.
Solution: Give crystal for forum posts with a daily limit to prevent abuse. Engage lite players to use the forums and keep them engaged even when they aren't playing. The activity makes VO seem more lively....and the players get in-game currency for ships and other things that crystal is required for.

Not sure if there is a mechanic that can be used in this rudimentary forum software to issue crystal, but surely it can be manually done from time to time for those that start interesting threads or post engaging content.
Perhaps some game-related contests in the forums would be appropriate? Some awards for creativity in the RP forums for stories, art, video... etc. could be a mug or mousepad from the store. This would be an expense, but one that could pay off. If the forum is active it can promote activity in the game as well.

I like the nature of this post. There should be a little thought that goes into it, but yes, I think lite players earning crystal from posting in the forums is not a bad idea. Obviously, there should be a cap that makes it completely not worth trying to farm crystal by posting daily. Like 1 crystal for everything post someone makes but cap it at like 5 or something really low. For me personally, it was engaging in the "lovely" VO community that got me to stick around.
Nothing good will come of mechanically rewarding people for posting, even with caps. Do you really want to wade through a bunch of empty meaningless posts from people typing on a phone? I don't. If they aren't already posting on the forum, they probably have nothing worthwhile to say anyway.

An alternative is to give full subscribers crystal that we can distribute like we do with friend keys. When someone posts something engaging and worthwhile...we can reward them by throwing crystals at them.
I'd actually be very happy having to wade through posts I don't want to read compared to the current state of visiting a forum without posts to read. Everyone determines worth differently...and just because I may not like a post does not mean it has no value.
