+1 to more armor and thrust. Other than that, a profile adjustment to make it harder to hit with flares.

As it has been said time and time again, the Traders of UIT have a right to be able to defend their trading. We should have at least one exclusive combat ship to do this with, and it should not be one that can be shot down so easily.

I guess the big problem with those who oppose the OP suggestion is that they don't want us to be able to defend against their constant attacks and harassment. They just don't want to lose their precious ships to anyone that hails from UIT.

I really don't see why the UDV would need more turbo thrust. It's already a good chaser, it doesn't need to be a great one. Increase the armor or lower the profile 1st.

Otherwise, a bit of an increase to regular thrust and or spin torque would be good as well.

Capt'N, I'm still waitin on yer 5 billion credit deposit.

nothing in that description says they would have advanced combat ships

Nothing, you mean, aside from the second sentence:

"They are widely revered as innovators, as life without a homeworld has called for truly unique advances in space station and ship construction technology."

Surely part of that innovation would have been applied toward defensive and offensive capabilities...

A raptor with two L-Ports is as far as the devs have taken "truly unique". And, as has been pointed out countless times, the real purpose for the UDV is yet to be revealed. It's a good ship, but given the choice, I'd much rather play an Itani or Serco character and fly a valk or prom.

The great strengths and focus of the UIT are: Exploration, prospecting, trade, and the ability to survive for long durations without an actual homeworld.

They are also historical pro-peace types ("Neutral Territories"), although that's been mollified over long periods of time into more of "opportunists". So they're likely to have their share of gun runners, smugglers and the like.

They do not spend huge amounts of their GDP on offense/defense research, the way the Itani and Serco both do. TPG is a big contractor, but TPG does not encompass the "UIT as a whole", it's one powerful corporation.

"Unique" improvements to a UIT ship are more likely to be things related to: cargo, sensors, ship usage flexibility, etc. Among other things, they're the long-range solo mariners of the sky. Survival may be a priority, but conquest is not. Special defensive/concealment/escape weaponry is more likely.

I'm sure this will stir things further, but I'm flying out tomorrow and won't get to read it for a week. Anyway, I'm still not against buffing/tweaking ships and whatnot, just clarifying "broad strokes" statements about the UIT as a people, and their focus as a whole.

This doesn't mean their top fighter has to be "crap", just don't expect it to be a purely purpose-built death machine like a SkyCommand or X-1 or whatever. More for border enforcement, taking on grayspace pirates in numbers, and police matters.. not for invasions.

Inc, anyone who calls the UDV "crap" really hasn't given it a run for their money. That ship is excellent at a lot of things.

The UDV is used skillfully by so little people also because no one uses it regularly, or the fact it hasn't been around long. It's an exceptional fighter when used properly.

Two mega positron blasters on that sucker and its capable of downing any other fighter with roughly 8 hits. I'd say this is more than enough to protect your trading vessels.
