Make an accessible-from-anywhere sector

Jan 16, 2015 greenwall link
An offshoot of this thread:

http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/29642?page=1

Suggestion:

Allow travel to B8 (or one of a set collection of sectors) from any sector in the universe. Players who enter this special sector in this special way would have to die to get out.

Purpose:

Encouragement of large group PvP. A substitue for an "arena sector" concept which aims to keep PvP within the confines of the existing universe.

Various comments from other thread:

If we are going to teleport people, why not teleport them on accepting a deneb mission? ("You will be given a free ship equal to your current ship, but without a jump drive, so you will be brought to the location on a Heavy Assault Cruiser / Frigate")

Offer only one border mission of each type for 'teleportation' so players are all sent to the same mission.

+1 for making b8 the arena. If you select the option to spawn in b8 you cant leave b8. When you die, you are back at the station you were at before. Players would stay in game and b8 would be more active. This would also allow new players to experience pvp without getting stuck in grey.

So I can spawn whatever ship I want directly into B8 with no travel time, and I can rejoin if I die, again with no travel time, and catch people passing through B8 the "normal" way?

This is pretty good from a pirate perspective.....but creates even more of the "no penalty for death" thing that B8 already suffers from.

Yep Savet. Though if anyone drops cargo in b8 you wouldn't be able to as easily scoop it.

Another possible modification of this new idea is the location of the instajump PvP sector could alternate randomly (both in selection and duration... i.e. anywhere between 12 hours and 3 days) between common choke points and/or grey sectors with cool roid features that may never have seen a large battle before:

Edras I-2
Edras B-11
Sedina B-8
Latos H-2
Ukari A-10
Sedina E-5 (only one off the top of my head)

about scooping cargo:

I know pirates are supposed to care about loot, but really in VO they care about the pewpew and about obstructing the traders (as they should!). No one really cares about your plasma array crates, and for the juicy cargo (dent parts) you need to get a bigger ship anyway. So the pirate can instajump to B8, kill people, and on the off chance that something juicy is dropped get a guildmate to come in the old fashioned way with a cargo ship to get the loot. If the pirate is killed while defending the loot, he autojoins the fight.

What will happen if this is instated and becomes popular? No one in their right mind will travel through B8 anymore with juicy cargo, so they will take the longer route around, which is now also quite safe because all the pew-pewers are in B8. So, trading/mfg becomes more boring as the flying times are longer and encounters even less frequeny, and PvP becomes more detached from the game.

(-1 to instaporting to B8, in case anyone is wondering ;-))

First, pirates will have to consider that their death is the only exit from B8 in this manner. Thus it becomes a logistical issue of whether or not it's beneficial to warp into b8 and lose the ability to chase anyone OUT or get back to any particular area other than where they are homed. I think it's a pretty balanced idea in that regard.

There would be some amount of "being in two places at once" that occurs which will bother all the anti-magic folks here. I understand some people require SOME kind of real-world-like justification for any change in VO, even if it's very thinly veiled. Perhaps this justification could lie in some Corvus technology that is bestowed upon you as a gift from Corvus once some VERY early combat achievement is reached (would be important to make it accessible very early on for newbs to get immersed).

Even though it's the status quo, personally I don't think people should feel safe flying through grey with juicy cargo...ever. BUT -- if the sector was alternated as I suggested above, it would cut down a specific avoidance of B8 by traders. There still remains the problem of exploiting the teleportation for cargo hauling. I think my original requirement (from other thread) of prohibiting cargo in the hold as a requirement for making the special teleport would fix that.

A very good idea! +1

If it is still possible to get into b8 from Sedina and leave into Latos if I travelled the normal, long way, this is a very cool idea. Jumping in from elsewhere would just cut all ways to get out and you could respawn once you lose a fight. Very nice!

I can:

1. Stockpile Greyhounds and home in Latos N15.
2. MagicWarp to B8.
3. Catch trader transorting capship part through B8.
4. /explode
5. MagicWarp an XC to B8.
6. Pick up the cargo and turbo out of sensor range.
7. Coordinate with a guild-mate to come to B8 manually with an XC to take posession of the part.

This is very advantageous for pirates, so if you want to do it....go for it....but I wouldn't call this balanced.

Anything (ok, *almost anything*) that encourages more group coordination is a good thing... especially pirate coordination, which is notably lacking in the game right now.

Traders could attempt to counter this tactic by homing in Sedina as a backup, or by simply not flying solo through grey with a capship part.

It can't be sedina b8 because it's a travel route for traders and it's on the ctc route. How about d2 or one of the tube sectors?
Jan 16, 2015 Pizzasgood link
-1

csgno1, it's supposed to disrupt trade. Note that you don't have to travel through the depths of greyspace; you could loop up through UIT space and down the eastern stretch if Sedina is too hot for your delicate sensibilities. Though you may have a point regarding CTC, since that would only impact the Serco and not the Itani. If anybody actually cares about that, it could instead use Sedina O-6, Bractus B-14, or either Odia wormhole. That way it would avoid CTC entirely while still interfering with trident trade and other thru-traffic.

We could activate the station by the race-tube.

+1 and I look forward to pvping pirates in xc's ;) B8 is dangerous to fly through already. It's the last sector I'd take a trade ship through. I take the long way around when I'm in a trade ship already.

Rin -- did you really mean -1? Your comments seem in support.

+1 to activating H-5 and/or making it this sector. Could have some RP about how it's a test station for creating stable wormholes and was reactivated for some reason.

Yeah the H-5 tube area is a great place to have this.

Yes, I really mean -1, sorry if I was unclear about that. This would be too much of a stretch to immersion for me.
