Perma-fail missions

Hello,

I think it's ok to rediscuss a suggestion which has been made 5 years ago:

'Jzalae:
Permanent fail missions irrevocably handicap a character into which a player may pour weeks or even months of grinding. FWIW, this is the reason I went back to WoW a few months ago."
The missions I'm aware of that have perma-fail outcomes are the dangerous experiment [Edit: Research Vessel Defense] mission and the missions that say "don't leave the sector".'

To permanently fail a mission can be really annoying, especially for a noob. It will permanently damage the VO character you are using.

I would like to suggest to reset the retry-counter once in a while, for example to increment it by 1 every 2 weeks or every month.

The ironic thing is the OP of the thread you linked to would have uncovered the rest of the tree if s/he had kept going. There are very, very few instances that a 'perma-fail' condition exists, in any form. Research Vessel Defense is not one of them; if you fail this mission five times it will not "permanently damage" your character, although it seems like it will. That being written, some mission trees will have alternate outcomes based on choices made within the tree.

If you abort "Party Errand" (the mission cannot be failed), then successfully pass "Party Reparations", then abort "Party Errand" again, you will not be able to complete the side of the tree that leads to the Stygian Furies. Same goes for if you let one of the guests die during "Party Security" (historically, this happens less than 1% of the time). In "LAR project: Uplink Surgery" you can choose to decline the surgery or suddenly abort in the middle of the 18-second procedure, both of which will end the tree. These are the only notable existing 'perma-fail' conditions I can think of.

The thing about a MMORPG like Vendetta is that there is no 'save' button, and you want your character's actions to have some meaning. As such, I find there's a balance between letting actions and choices have consequences, and having some guard-rails (or warning signs, at least) to prevent players from unknowingly going off a cliff. For the ones that do go off a cliff, well, maybe they find something unexpected at the bottom.

According to the Wiki the Rogue Queen mission would be such a mission. Which isn't one I regret never having completed, as regular and Skirmish Hive Queens are plentiful anyway.
