Better Station Defense and Faction Consequences

A centurion can be a sufficient escape vessel in the scenario being discussed, especially if you have no add ons. What makes the biggest difference for newbs is the lack of access to decent powercells.

The real issue is not noobs being station camped at corvus.

The real issue is noobs being allowed to home at a station where they are very likely to be station camped.

Some noobs are just stubborn beyond reason, and will always put themselves in a position that will cause them to quit the game. The game should not try to make any significant provision for people this stupid.

I homed at corvus as a level 3 noob, and was found by FBP. I kept throwing myself into combat, and after persuading him to match me ship for ship, and still getting decimated, but receiving a load of good combat advice, I realized I had a lot to learn from pirates.

I agree, the problem is that newbies home at corvus, but the problem is also that we need better newbs. I'm not sure what we can really do about the newb, they already get a lot of warnings that grey is dangerous.

So you want heavy, player-protective defenses for low standing players (how many noobs have high Corvus standing)...at a pirate station?

You're a moron.

1) Station defenses are fine, and everywhere other than Corvus already has a huge NFZ and significant faction punishment for killing un-hated players in monitored sectors. If you don't like Corvus's policies, don't go there.

2) FAMY does not grief. We offer a clear method to avoid punishment: paying. We are very strict about honoring payments, even offering guild-wide protection for long periods of time for a very insignificant fee. Many of us even offer very significant discounts to new players who willingly cooperate. Ironically the pirate guild may be the second most helpful guild in VO (after EMS). Station camping, thus, only occurs at the stubborn and ignorant choice of the campee. "Most players" (from OP) are more reasonable than this, and decide that being station camped for an hour is not something they want. If they're not, then let them quit for all I care.

3) This may be a fault of guild leadership and false advertisement, but new recruits of TGFT should be aware that the guild tag they are deciding to put in front of their name will cause almost every other player in the game to terminate them with extreme prejudice on sight. Complaining about being station camped and griefed while wearing the most infamous griefer's tag in the game is a fatal error.

Unrelatedly, it amazes me that you managed to misspell Corvus not once, but twice in the SAME WAY in your previous post...

It's so funny to hear this from a FAMY member.

If this had happened anywhere else, I might agree. However, if you had had at least Combat License 2 and Trade License 2, you would have had access to equipment that made getting away relatively easy with a bit of planning (a quick dart out the exit dock and 2 or 3 hops through empty sectors). They still might have blocked the wormholes, but not before you would have been able to relocate to a safer vantage point.

Right now, it looks like you traveled to one of the most dangerous places in the galaxy at tender (brand new) levels, homed there, and ran afoul of a gang of outlaws.

If this had been literally any of the other 12 factions, your assailants would have had to deal with not being able to dock with the station once they started firing at you, and being banned from all stations of that faction for 24 hours if they killed you three times, maybe sooner and indefinitely if you had Admired standing.

The lesson here is take equipment from Corvus to wherever your staging area may be (Xang Xi has a nice station in Sedina L-2, the same system) but don't home there unless you have a bare minimum of Licenses (Combat/Trade 2) and are willing to deal with trouble.

Corvus' station in Sedina D-14 is to Vendetta Online as Mos Eisley Spaceport is to Star Wars.

To reiterate and expand on the above post by Phaserlight:

New players can in most cases buy better ships at Xang Xi, than they can buy at Corvus.

There is a Xang Xi station in Sedina L2, the same system as a Corvus station.

New players would be much better off to home at Xang Xi, than Corvus.

Buy the better ship at Xang Xi, and then take it to Corvus to buy equipment.

If you are killed at Corvus, while you are homed at Xang Xi, you are in a much better position.

I would even go so far as to keep extra escape ships (hog2, purchased from Xang Xi) stored at Corvus.
