Idea for making VO free

Oct 14, 2015 Final Stand link
Maybe VO can be made free but make the ships more expensive and use more crystals to buy them. For example, like increase the number of crystals needed to buy the ship. Then make it possible to PURCHASE crystals for money. This idea came from another game i play... And maybe u can make it possible for us to hv no level limits but its MORE hard to level up. So... What do u think?

This has been discussed to death:

Short version: There will always be limitations on F2P. Probably.

VO needs to see orders of magnitude of population growth before the devs will change their thinking on business models.

I've harassed them over the years but i'm now convinced that Incarnate is really booksmart on the business case for F2P and alternative revenues and when/if the time comes and the pop reaches critical mass he will jump on board, but there are many hurdles to this so it's kind of a case of him trying to get them through the tunnel to the 2.0 release.

Yeah, it's kind of a nuanced situation. We are pursuing F2P at this point, and we've been heading in that direction for awhile (and you can already purchase crystals with cash, on Android). We need much better tuned numbers on all of that, lately we've been recording a lot of new analytics to help inform our decisions. You will likely see some big changes to our F2P setup, before the end of the year, as we continue to experiment there.

There are also other new "free" models, like Amazon Underground, which pays per minute of usage, and has merit for games like us that tend to have long session times. But that's a very specific and vertical case (only usable with Amazon, and their app-store). The point is, the different monetization options out there are constantly evolving.

We are definitely open to switching models (or, more realistically, "promoting" a new model as the common case). Long-term we'll probably continue to have a mixed set of options, because some business models are ideal for some situations but not others (Android users emphatically prefer F2P, but console/steam has more mixed reactions to it, etc).

So...um...how long would it take before the game becomes f2p? Approx. Time

Btw is it FREE to play on android but with level caps cos i dun think i want to pay $1 permonth to play...

Pay $10 then and play on both mobile and desktop.

It's not a question of when, it's a question of if. The game has to be more successful first. The man's working on it!

How about making an ad and putting it on TV? That would be like Game of War...and it helps cos i saw how many players play that game. Or maybe u can put an ad in the newspapers if u think TV ads r too expensive. Anyway, this probay will help.

So why don't you make a donation to Guild to pay for the TV ad? I'm sure they'll give you lifetime membership for free if you do that. Both problems solved!

Or would you rather not pay anything but still tell other people how to spend their money? I think you should be working in finance!

Um i dun understand. Could u explain further?

If you mean on Android, you need to register the account to an email address. The game does prompt you to do this when you leave the training sector for the first time, and makes you chose a username/password. If you neglect to do this, I think the devs can rescue the account for you, (see support at the side) but really, if you don't it is your fault.

If you mean on PC, you would just log in with the username/password you used when login onto this forum.

Every game in order to become completely free of charge needs to rapidly evolve and be near-to-finish. Till then Developers do need funds to continue their work. That is just normal at first that a game either demands in-game items to be purchased for real money or either a Premium/Full version to be paid for. Hope that answers your question.
As of in-game items. Crystals can already be purchased and it makes sense of it - at first everything needs to be paid for in order to continue its development. If you want f2p to come faster - consider either purchasing premium and funding developers or joining the developers to aid them on their work

-1 I would hate to see this game become a Buy2Win type of MMO, and that's what I feel would happen if this wasn't a subscription game. The devs still need to make money. And if there was no subscription how would they? Exclusive weapons, ships, ability to buy credits. It would make the players with more money to spend an advantage. Now if the devs come up with a way to make the game F2P without creating a buy2win advantage, I might back it.
